Die brasilianische Filmproduktion stagnierte und stagnierte, das änderte sich erst 1949 als der gebürtige Brasilianer Alberto Cavalcanti in seine Heimat zurück kehrte. Er übernahm die Leitung der Produktionsfirma Vera Cruz, die sich zur Aufgabe machte, den brasilianischen Film zu entwickeln. Der erfolgreichste Film wurde O cangaceiro (1953), eine mythische Räuberballade. Der Regisseur Lima Barreto war zuvor mit Kurzfilmen über Kunst in Erscheinung getreten und gewissermassen ein Gefährte Cavalcantis. Mit den Filmen O canto do mar (1953) und Simao o caolho (1952) trat Cavalcanti auch selbst als Regisseur hervor, jedoch gelang es nicht, die Filme zu exportieren und die USA gewann erneut die Vorherrschaft über die Kinospielpläne in Brasilien. - The Brazilian film production stagnated and stagnated, this changed only in 1949 when the Brazilian Alberto Cavalcanti returned to his home country.
