So erklärte ein Pfarrer einst Napoleon Wilson: “You have something to do with death”. “Don’t give me that civilized look!"; schreit Leigh, da sie Bishops verächtlichen Blick spürt. - ( Assault on Precinct 13 is less a remake than a variation on a well-known theme: The fort is surrounded, the defenders shoot at everything that moves. The attackers are trying to pact with traitors. Legend has it that Howard_Hawks filmed the subject with John_Wayne in Rio_Bravo and El_Dorado so often that John_Wayne is said to have answered Hawk's third request for Rio Lobo: He would do it again if he didn't have to read the script. John Carpenter simply added a few contemporary images of the New Hollywood era in 1976, for example from Night_Of_The_Living_Dead. Surely there are also some new aspects, because topics like racism and feminism can only be found in Carpenter. So we have a "mixed" group encircled here in a disused New York police station by a street gang called Street Thunder. Blaxploitation star Austin Stoker plays the policeman Bishop, who starts his first working day. He's not very happy to be sent to a police station that's been abandoned. He can't choose: "There are no heroes anymore, Bishop"; so the voice of his superior. He is greeted there by the sexy Leigh (the great Laurie rooms), who asks him if he drinks his coffee black. Leigh is a modern woman - one who controls her sex herself. Scientists would describe them as subjects, not objects. Performance by Napoleon Wilson (Darwin Joston, who was a bit old). He is the leader of the group, although not on the side of the law. It is important for Carpenter to show that each of the protagonists decides his own destiny. Thus a priest once declared Napoleon Wilson: "You have something to do with death". None of his characters allows Carpenter anything like an apportionment of blame. He doesn't have simple answers about racism, for example - there are simply too many levels in this seemingly straightforward plot. At some point Leigh finds out that Street Thunder are simply after a traumatized man who found shelter in her guard. She proposes to just send this man out into the street again. Is it that simple? "Don't give me that civilized look!" screams Leigh as she feels Bishop's contemptuous look. It is not that simple in Carpenter's grassroots democratic world! (transl. deepl.com)
