Die Grundidee von Samuel Maoz zweiten grossen Film resultiert aus eigenen Erfahrungen. Daraus wurde einer der ungewöhnlichsten und vor allem bildgewaltigsten Filme der letzten Zeit. Grund genug, einmal in unserem DVD Keller zu suchen, welche grossen Filme es noch gibt aus Israel. Das israelische Kino ist etwas älter als der Staat Israel, die ersten Produktionen entstanden während des britischen Mandats in Palästina. Eine ganze Reihe von israelischen Filmen hat auch in letzter Zeit den Weg auf die grossen Festivals und in deutsche Kinos gefunden. Während die ersten Spielfilme noch im Auftrag zionistischer Organisationen entstanden, liberalisierte sich das Bild während der 60er und ist heute kritischer denn je. Die Autorenfilmer seit den 60ern studierten in New York oder Paris und belebten den israelischen Film mit dem Blick von aussen, der bis heute eines seiner Merkmale ist. Das moderne Kino wurde zu einem Spiegel der turbulenten und komplexen Gesellschaft des Landes. Viele Filme der 50er bis 70er sind in dieser Liste zum Entdecken aufgelistet neben aktuellen Produktionen. Das Bild des Landes, durch seine Omnipräsenz in den Medien verstellt, kann so auf ganz neue Art und Weise erkundet werden. Israel ist ein Filmland, das unter schwierigsten Bedingungen Erstaunliches geleistet hat, obwohl die Filme durch den hebräischen Dialog nach wie vor ein Handicap mit sich tragen. Die hebräische Sprache aber als gemeinsamer Nenner gehört unbedingt zu einem israelischen Film dazu. Identität durchs Kino. - If you liked Foxtrot, you also like... Imagine, it knocks at the door.
