Was passiert da bloss? State Of The Art! - FREE ON YOUTUBE (DU FINDEST DEN GANZEN FILM FREI AUF YOUTUBE) Esteban Sapir's La Antena from Argentina is a black-and-white film that does almost without dialogue. An almost silent film. Although the plot is extraordinarily odd and allows for a lot of interpretation, it's all about one core message: How are we influenced by the media? A few years ago we showed La Antena in Bar 25 and the retro-futuristic look met with general approval. A cross between the works of the early days of cinema and artificial science fiction - who could say "no"? Stupid that I didn't become a great friend of La Antena myself. The story has something bizarre and capricious about it that I wanted to overlook, almost indulgently, the fact that the film lacks some grounding. Quite often I asked myself at which point of the story I was? What is happening? La Antena is set in the future and people have lost their language. The brains, they have been stirred up by television. Everyone is dominated by the mogul Mr. TV, who is hunting for the last inhabitant with voice: This is a singer whose son has to get by without eyes. How do you get rid of a Mr. TV? By penetrating the inside of your station... Television is once again to blame for everything, but it's stupid that this not so original message is served in such a haughty aesthetic shell! The classic silent movies, but they were modern! State Of The Art! La Antena sometimes seems more like an excavation on the cemetery. Today everything is "vintage". A bit Sapir seems to misunderstand the pioneering spirit of that time: The classics didn't just try to look good, but rather to develop a medium! Enough of the critical objections, though, because nevertheless La Antena offers enough amusing moments to entertain well besides its really wonderful pictures. A pretty gem, away from the mainstream, but not as big a masterpiece as La Antena would like it to be!
