- NETFLIX MOVIE It has been written so many times, but with this coming of age drama, Italian Paolo Sorrentino once again provokes comparison with Fellini and his early work. And like Fellini, Sorrentino also processes quite obviously biographical. And sometimes you even think Sorrentino's characters have just jumped out of a Fellini film. Just such lovable and vulgar caricatures! Fabietto Schiesi (Filippo Scotti) grows up in the Naples of the 80s. A development that seems to us almost gets, in any case it bristles with borrowings from similar films. The narrative is almost formless, but very accessible. Some scenes seem like Fellini allusions, only they are easier to grasp than the original. For the most part, everything revolves around Fabietto's tentative relationship with his parents Saverio and Maria (Toni Servillo and Teresa Saponangelo). They are happy goofs, as are most of his family. Their influence on the son is considerable, even if we don't notice it right away.... Like all Sorrentino films, you MUST see The Hand of God in theaters, so impressive are the picture & sound! Sorrentino comes across here as a young filmmaker who loves to quote his idols. Quotes are more important to him than the work of making his characters seem lifelike. But that doesn't matter. Everything here seems like a big game.
