NOMADENKINO UND CINEGEEK ZEIGEN DEN FILM AM 24.7.18 IM ABOUT BLANK) High Heels demolieren ein Polizeiauto. -NOMADENKINO AND CINEGEEK SHOW THE FILM ON 24.7.18 IN THE ABOUT BLANK) High Heels demolish a police car. So begins the queercore movement in the early 80s. Queercore originated in Toronto and, according to Wikipedia, is defined as "part of the punk rock and hardcore scene, whose protagonists are offensively and confidently committed to homosexuality, bisexuality and queerness". Really? Whoever is queer does not submit to the mainstream and is straight. Finally, the protagonists of Queercore MUST appear as radical anarchists because they were rejected by both the gays and the punks. I'm trying to translate this into berlin: Queercore takes place at the Kumpelnest, gays end up as married couples or join the CDU. Performer Penny Arcade explains it to us in Leyser's documentary: Queer, that's for real outsiders! Therefore, icons like Bruce LaBruce and G.B. Jones of Fifth Column (which allegedly influenced the later Riot Grrrl, as we are told in the film) also appear in Queercore. Yony Leyser adores Bruce La Bruce and I think it was a matter of his heart to secretly put Bruce La Bruce at the centre of his documentary. Of course we also like charming comments from John Waters ("Gay is not enough!") - anyway Leyser picked up great footage material! Evil tongues would imply Leyser Namedropping by the impressive number of celebrities that appear here (although in his last Berlin documentary). But that's an accusation he's been living with for some time, after all, many already found his William S. Burroughs documentary astonishing (isn't he much too young for that?). So be it! Queercore offers us everything a successful cinema evening needs: We can argue splendidly about whether the punk movement was indeed homophobic. But my thesis is that Queercore is most of all directed against the adapted gay scene. As said, controversial theses about a movement of which we here in Berlin still know little.
