The Passengers Of The Night). Aber ganz undramatisch, denn The Passengers Of The Night bleibt immer ein ruhiges sympathisches Familien Drama. - Here comes a small and modest and light-hearted film set in 80's Paris (including stone washed jeans, LPs and old news). It was 1981 when Mitterand won the elections and ten years later the younger characters in the film are preparing to cast their own votes. The Passengers Of The Night, however, is not about the big emotions and important questions of life. Everything seems nicely unspectacular, sort of like the nouvelle vague comedies of the 60s and 70s. Three teenagers sneak into the cinema without paying. They want to see Gremlins and instead stumble into a Rohmer film (which is also the inspiration for The Passengers Of The Night). Unexpectedly, by the way, they are enchanted by Rohmer's light storytelling! And later they will be shocked to learn that their star Pascale Ogier died at 25. Charlotte Gainsbourg plays Elisabeth, who had breast cancer and is now recovering from the disease and also a divorce. Together with her teenage daughter, she lives in a large and somewhat chaotic Paris apartment. With a beautiful view over the city! However, her ex-husband wants to sell the apartment at some point... So Elisabeth tries to get a job and starts at a nightly radio show. Her job: to connect the callers with the host (Emmanuelle Beart). One day she even meets the show's special guest Talulah (Noée Abita). Talulah is an outlier. Elisabeth realizes that no one is really interested in Talulah's fate after her show is over. So she invites Talulah to her apartment. Talulah will come and go and play with the feelings of Elisabeth and her family for ten years.... But quite undramatic, because The Passengers Of The Night always remains a quiet sympathetic family drama. The pain passes, everything can be healed. Whatever happens, we still have ourselves!
