Part VIII is one of the best parts of the series in terms of technical equipment and ingenuity in history. The flagship of the series. This time the crew of the Enterprise follows the evil Borgs back to the time when mankind dared the first flights at warp speed. Trekkies will probably know how fast that is. For us mortals normally, this is the best and most complicated time jump since the future of mankind depended on humpback whales. At that time, 2063, the Vulcans organized the flight. Today, in the 24th millennium, the Borg want to travel back by means of a temporal vortex (I love these terms!). The Enterprise E is patrolling space as the Borgs are attacking people. The Borgs are partly human and partly computer and they assimilate all races. Picard (Patrick Stewart) knows this because he himself was once a prisoner of the Borgs. These dark ones even have a femme fatale (Alice Krige) in their team! A master of seduction. The Enterprise follows the Borgs to Earth - and we are shocked to discover that our planet is inhabited by Borgs. To change this, the very first Warp Flight must succeed. Only that would correct the story. What's new in the eighth part? Especially that the special effects were adapted to their time and don't look like from a moth box anymore. Or is that really bad? After all, real trekkis are conservative in value. But I was happy about such beautiful pictures as the one that begins in Picard's eyeball and looks like the whole universe.
