The weakness of Star Trek VII is also the weakness of our time: Postmodern quote cinema. Star Trek VII acts like a distracted penny-pincher, constantly quoting itself, losing sight of the plot. There are lots of jokes and updates for Trekkis - the story is forgotten about it. Appearance of the new generation called Enterprise B. With some reporters on board she is supposed to make an amusement tour around the solar system. A promo tour. But then a call for help comes in. Who is the captain now? The newly appointed Picard (Patrick Stewart) or pensioner Kirk (William Shatner)? Of course Kirk is better equipped for such a task, but the ship is unmanned. A free-floating space coil has captured two spaceships in a gravimetric field (I think). Well, Star Trek has always preferred to use pseudoscientific gibberish. One of the survivors is Dr. Soran (Malcolm McDowell), who insists on going back to the ship. But that explodes in the force field of the Nexus (I think) and time jumps 78 years forward... If you want to understand this better, you should follow the explanations of Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg), the mystic of the universe. The different gravimetric force fields generate a lot of action on the screen, only on the Enterprise there is still time for a cultivated philosophical conversation. The most beautiful thing in the film: The computer control on the Enterprise. Looks like a supermarket checkout.
