Im About Blank. Was das soll? - On Monday NOMADENKINO will present the Middle East conflict in a completely different way. In About Blank. So if you'd like to have a little more discussion after the film, Tel Aviv On Fire is the place for you! Those who watch a lot of films from Israel will have noticed that the Middle East conflict plays a clear role. Or to put it another way: Are there any Israeli films at all that don't deal with it? Here the Middle East conflict becomes a soap. Welcome to a crazy world that doesn't obey the rules of reason at all! A Palestinian spy, dressed like one of the ladies in "Deadlier Than The Male", on her way to spy on one of the colonels of the Israeli army. Kitsch and exaggeration everywhere! Full lips and a languid look. Then the Israeli general lights a cigarette. Under his black moustache. What's that all about? The solution: Tel Aviv On Fire is a film within a film. A soap is shot shortly before the beginning of the Six-Day War in 1967. A cheap studio production in which the accent of the Palestinians has to be constantly improved. The author of all this (who inherited the job from his uncle) suffers from a writer's block. But during his daily journeys from Jerusalem and Ramallah, he meets a real soldier who can help him write. And that's a Palestinian! All right? A Palestinian-Israeli team of two. Between all his absurd ideas, director Sameh Zoabi reports incidentally about everyday life there in the border area. And in the fiction, everyone is allowed to think of a new end for Israel and Palestine... Pro-Palestinian or pro-Israeli? That is of secondary importance. In a soap opera, the love story is of particular interest! What could better illustrate the frustration about a hopeless situation?
