P.S. Mit der Musik der Einstürzenden Neubauten. - The human skin with its finest hair, pubic hair, penis. Then a finger, a hand. Nudity is the essential element of Adina Pintilie's cinema. She comes into the picture, introduces us to her project (which will later win the Golden Bear of the Berlinale). Again and again, her production conditions are exhibited, documentary and fictitious ingredients merge. After the introduction, the episodic story begins. The focus is on the fifty-year-old Laura (Laura Benson). She observes a callboy showering and masturbating. There is no contact between woman and man. Central theme: intimacy. It is about the dilemma between identity and object. Touch Me Not seems like a research trip and even more: relationship game, essay, documentary. Next to Laura appear: A Transfrau, who loves Brahms and names her breasts, and Thomas, who lost all his body hair as a child. Or Christian, who suffers from muscular atrophy and still has fun having sex with his girlfriend. They are all taken in in their private environment. Somewhere between a brightly lit workshop about touch and dark bondage desire. Laura feels attracted to Thomas. She follows him. Director Pintilie, however, always intervenes in the action. She is the questioner, sometimes also the interviewee. We feel her compassion for Laura and the others. She approaches the themes of intimacy, sex and love uncertainly, almost disturbed. Touch Me Not as a film seems like a pure imposition. As a viewer you have to endure this imposition - or better not borrow Touch Me Not from us. A process of self-discovery lasting a good two hours. A painful challenge. P.S. With the music of Einstürzende Neubauten.
