- FREE ON YOUTUBE A film that is the opposite of the heroin chic of the fashion industry. Located in the south of Wales, in Swansea, which the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas once called the grave of all ambitions (and he came from Swansea!). Our bartender from the film art bar Fitzcarraldo also comes from South Wales and we can only hope that everything shown in Twin Town didn't happen around her corner. The focus is on the twins Julian (Llyr Evans) and Jeremy (the great Rhys Ifans), who aren't any twins at all, just brothers. But everyone calls them twins. The port city Swansea can't be the grave of all their ambitions, because they never had any. Twin Town introduces us to two clans who get into an argument because the father of one falls from the roof of the other. The roof belongs to Cartwright (William Thomas), the local dealer. Complicated? Whatever. Be that as it may, comedy and pathos, brawls, murder and lots of drugs find their place in the plot, which is certainly supposed to remind us of the Scottish "trainspotting". The finale is even really poetic with a choir! But where does the movie want to go with us? Far too much happens and far too many scenes are forced upon us. Somewhere underneath there is a much easier story, to which one just stuck the trainspotting label. In contrast to the original, there is no clear vision here. After all, Trinspotting director Danny Boyle also acts as Executuve Producer, while director Kevin Allen is the brother of Keith Allen, who played in the original. Twin Town is now supposed to do for Wales what Boyle's film did for Scotland (with a strong Welsh accent). That's worth a look, but nothing more.
