Vermiglio schildert das Leben einer Dorf Gemeinschaft in den italienischen während des letzten Jahrhunderts, kurz vor dem Ende des zweiten Weltkrieges. Es ist zum Glück einer der seltenen Filme, die sich dem Bewusstsein der Zeit (in welcher der Film spielt) angepasst haben. Die älteste Tochter Lucia (Martina Scrinzi) ist die Hauptfigur, geleitet von einem philosophischen Lehrer. Er heisst Caesar (Tommaso Ragno) und leitet die örtliche Schule.
