Batman Begins dringt in die dunkle Tiefe des Superhelden. Der Film taucht ein in die qualvolle Vergangenheit von Bruce Wayne, der seine Eltern verlor, der ohne Freunde gross wurde und erforscht weniger den Ursprung des Comics. Christopher Nolans Film gibt sich realistisch -obwohl er natürlich alles andere ist! Zum ersten Mal sehen wir Waynes Fledermaus Paranoia aufgrund eines traumatischen Kindheitserlebnisses glaubwürdig dargestellt. Wir begegnen Wayne wieder in einer Art Camp, wo er ausgebildet wird im Nahkampf, der Technik unsichtbar zu werden und sich blitzschnell zu bewegen. Sein Mentor der Bewusstseins-Kontrolle versucht ihn, für die amoralische League Of Shadows anzuwerben (die Städte wie London zerstörte) - doch Wayne fügt sich nicht, sondern zerstört die Festung. Er kehrt zurück nach Gotham City, nicht um die Stadt niederzubrennen, so wie es die League Of Shadows plante, sondern um sie zu befreien. In Gotham City sehen wir, wie Wayne von einem Mitarbeiter der Firma seiner toten Eltern (Morgan Freeman) ausgerüstet wird (so erhält er sein Bat Mobil). Die Firma allerdings wird von einem korrupten Monster Manager (Rutger Hauer) geführt und Wayne schlüpft in die Rolle des nichtsnutzigen Playboys, um seine Batman Identität zu verbergen. Nur sein treuer Diener Alfred (Michael Caine) weiss davon, selbst die Jugendfreundin und gerechte Anwältin (Katie Holmes) bleibt uneingeweiht und glaubt nicht mehr an ihn. Batman war immer ein düsterer Held, der Geheimnisse verbarg: "Strange injuries and a nonexistent social life. These things beg the question, what does Bruce Wayne do with his time?", fragt sich Alfred. Während sich Wayne als Party Playboy besäuft wird das Wasser von Gotham City mit einem Gift infiltriert, welches die ganze Stadt auslöschen könnte... Batman aber verhält sich anfangs noch ungeschickt und wird erst langsam in Wayne herangebildet. Christian Bale ist dafür die richtige Besetzung, verkörpert er doch viel mehr als einen muskulösen Helden. Bis zu Batman Begins hielt ich die vorangegangenen Verfilmungen für spektakulär. Batman Begins aber macht deutlich, was fehlte: Die Gewichtung auf der Geschichte und dem Charakter des Helden zugunsten von technologischer Action. Christopher Nolans Batman ist der, auf den wir gewartet haben und es nicht einmal wussten. - Batman Begins penetrates into the dark depths of the superhero. The film plunges into the agonizing past of Bruce Wayne, who lost his parents, grew up without friends and explores less the origin of the comic. Christopher Nolan's film is realistic - even though he is everything else! For the first time we see Wayne's bat paranoia credibly portrayed due to a traumatic childhood experience. We meet Wayne again in a kind of camp, where he is trained in close combat, becoming invisible to technology and moving at lightning speed. His mentor of consciousness control tries to recruit him for the amoral League Of Shadows (which destroyed cities like London) - but Wayne doesn't give in but destroys the fortress. He returns to Gotham City, not to burn down the city as the League of Shadows planned, but to free it. In Gotham City we see Wayne being equipped by an employee of his dead parents' company (Morgan Freeman) (so he gets his Bat Mobil). However, the company is run by a corrupt monster manager (Rutger Hauer) and Wayne slips into the role of the useless playboy to hide his Batman identity. Only his faithful servant Alfred (Michael Caine) knows about it, even his childhood friend and just lawyer (Katie Holmes) remains uninitiated and no longer believes in him. Batman was always a dark hero who hid secrets: "Strange injuries and a non-existent social life. These things beg the question, what does Bruce Wayne do with his time?" asks Alfred. While Wayne gets drunk as a party playboy, the water of Gotham City is infiltrated with a poison that could wipe out the whole city... Batman, however, behaves clumsy at the beginning and is only slowly trained in Wayne. Christian Bale is the right cast for this, as he embodies much more than a muscular hero. Up to Batman Begins I thought the previous adaptations were spectacular. But Batman Begins makes clear what was missing: the emphasis on the story and the character of the hero in favor of technological action. Christopher Nolan's Batman is the one we've been waiting for and didn't even know it.
