About:

P.S. Falls du dich fragst, was Roderich bedeutet? So heisst mein Vater. -

About:

Hello and good to see you! Remember the early 00s when Berlin was still cheap! That was the time when we founded our Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo. A small video store where you could also have a drink. And because it was so much fun, we also built a cinema. A rather dirty smoking cinema for 0,00 Euro. We stole the wood from the Lidl building site next door and bought the fridges for free on ebay. We had to move twice until we arrived at 133 Reichenberger Str. in 2010. A street that still looked like West Berlin in 1985. You could almost imagine Turkish neighbours growing vegetables on the street and the Wall blocking the view of the Spree. Here we found our audience. A colourful mix and especially older people from the neighbourhood, because after all, everyone loves films! Just like us! In our video library you can rent at least 12,000 DVDs. You walk to the video store and rent a DVD for 1.00 euro. There is everything. Films from all over the world, old and new. No netflix junk, but good films; indie & arthouse. And the little smokers' cinema? It had set off into the wide world. Films were screened at Bar 25 (or the Holzmarkt) at Fusion, About Blank or the Badeschiff. Anywhere you could put up a screen. That's why my friend Werner christened this kind of cinema (mobile with a cargo bike) Nomadenkino. And the Roderich? Well, for years I've been looking for a club with a garden. Because in a garden, of course, it's wonderful to stage our open-air cinema. That's exactly what the Roderich offers. Inside there are two floors with an artificial indoor forest = trees also grow inside. And outside we have built a nice village of huts, because if it rains again, you want to be protected. For the whole project I teamed up with my school friend Alex. He has a construction company and you need one to build a hut village. Now the whole thing is in the north of Berlin, in Pankow, where there are almost no pubs. And certainly no open-air cinema! But that's changing now. P.S. In case you're wondering what Roderich means? That's my father's name.
