Man muss sich vorstellen, dass ein Film den Oscar gewinnt gegen die ungeheure Konkurrenz einer gewissen Weltraum Saga, der weniger eingespielt hat als die Gewinner der Jahre davor oder danach und auch ein vielfaches weniger gekostet. Annie Hall hat dafür mehr Witz und Weisheit als jeder andere Oscar Gewinner! Woody Allens Figur des neurotischen Gagschreibers Alvy Singer dient als Vorlage für viele seiner späteren Rollen. Dieane Keaton spielt Annie Hall: Hübsch, intelligent, schusselig und unsicher. In Annie Hall prasseln die Dialoge auf uns herein, es wird monologisiert und diskutiert. Alvy ist eine Figur, die fortwährend über das Leben an sich spricht. Alvy und Annie reden, reden, reden: Während sie spazieren gehen, beim Psychologen sitzen oder Sex haben. Annie Hall wirkt nach wie vor frisch und lebendig, so dass man fast übersieht, wie lang manche Szenen eigentlich dauern. Doch nur so gelingt es in Annie Hall dieses Feuerwerk brillanter Dialoge überhaupt in Gang zu setzen! Während wir Annie und Alvy zuhören, bezweifeln wir zunehmend, dass es viele Zeitgenossen überhaupt mit ihnen aushalten können. Dabei gibt es auch andere Frauen in Alvys Leben wie die Rolling Stone Korrespondentin, die Rockstars mit Heiligen vergleicht (Shelley Duvall) oder die Demokratin, mit der er sich zerstreitet, weil sie nicht mit den Theorien über das Kennedy-Attentat übereinstimmen. Annie Hall aber ist die Liebe seines Lebens und der Film untersucht, was eigentlich schief lief in der Beziehung. Annie Hall ist ein Trennungsfilm, ein wehmütiger Blick zurück. Dieser Zauber wird durch die Kamera von Gordon Willis poetisiert und immerhin ist das eine Komödie, die von dem berühmtesten Kameramann seiner Zeit veredelt wird! Obwohl wir in Annie Hall ein wildes Durcheinander von Animations-Sequenzen und Flashbacks in Alvys Kindheit erleben oder von den Film-Figuren direkt angesprochen werden - der Film hat seine sinnlichen, gefühlvollen Momente und deshalb bleibt er so sehr in Erinnerung! Wenn ich Annie Hall von Zeit zu Zeit wieder sehe, fühle ich mich in vielen Szenen wie zu Hause. Annie Hall wechselt permanent die Tonart und genau das tut Alvy: Er löst alles, jedes Problem, immer wieder in Witzen auf (obwohl er bestimmt wünscht, genau das nicht ständig zu tun!) -

Annie Hall has more wit and wisdom than any other Oscar winner! Woody Allen's character of the neurotic jester Alvy Singer serves as a template for many of his later roles. Dieane Keaton plays Annie Hall: Pretty, intelligent, scatterbrained and insecure. In Annie Hall the dialogues pelt in on us, it is monologized and discussed. Alvy is a character who constantly talks about life itself. Alvy and Annie talk, talk, talk: While they go for a walk, sit with a psychologist or have sex. Annie Hall still seems fresh and alive, so that you almost overlook how long some scenes actually last. But this is the only way Annie Hall manages to get this firework of brilliant dialogues going at all! While we listen to Annie and Alvy, we increasingly doubt that many of our contemporaries can put up with them at all. There are also other women in Alvy's life like the Rolling Stone correspondent who compares rock stars with saints (Shelley Duvall) or the democrat with whom he quarrels because they don't agree with the theories about the Kennedy assassination. Annie Hall, however, is the love of his life and the film examines what actually went wrong in the relationship. Annie Hall is a separation film, a wistful look back. This spell is poetized by the camera of Gordon Willis and at least it is a comedy refined by the most famous cameraman of his time! Although Annie Hall has a wild jumble of animation sequences and flashbacks in Alvy's childhood or is directly addressed by the film characters, the film has its sensual, emotional moments and that's why it remains so much in our memories! When I see Annie Hall again from time to time, I feel at home in many scenes. Annie Hall constantly changes key and that's exactly what Alvy does: He solves everything, every problem, again and again in jokes (although he certainly wishes not to do it all the time!).
