So einfach wie genial: Nicolas Cage spielt einen unscheinbaren Evolutionsbiologie-Professor namens Paul Matthews, der plötzlich in den Träumen seiner Studenten und Töchtern auftaucht. Sogar in denen von Menschen, die er gar nicht kennt. Zunächst schlendert er im Schlabber Pullover durchs Bild, doch dann werden die Träume, in denen er auftaucht gewalttätig... Und betrachtet Dream Scenario bitte einmal so: In ein paar Jahren wird es solchen skurrilen Filme mit solchen Budgets schlicht nicht mehr geben! Und Nicolas Cage? Der ist nicht absichtlich ein Freak, wird aber als solcher gesehen. Er wirkt unschuldig und fade, besonders gut darin, unlustige Witze zu reissen. Später wird er ahnungslos zum Sündenbock... Warum geschieht all das? Nebensache. Warum werden die Träume gewalttätig? Das erfahren wir nur in unbefriedigendem Masse. So stolpert Cage durch seine Szenen, Teil eines Niedergangs, den er nicht aufhalten kann. Ein Prozess, der nicht rückgängig gemacht werden kann. - As simple as it is ingenious: Nicolas Cage plays an unassuming evolutionary biology professor called Paul Matthews, who suddenly appears in the dreams of his students and daughters. Even in those of people he doesn't even know. At first he strolls through the picture in a baggy jumper, but then the dreams in which he appears turn violent... And look at Dream Scenario this way: in a few years, there simply won't be any more bizarre films with budgets like this! And Nicolas Cage? He's not intentionally a freak, but he's seen as one. He comes across as innocent and bland, especially good at making unfunny jokes. Later, he unsuspectingly becomes the scapegoat... Why is all this happening? Aside. Why do the dreams become violent? We only find out to an unsatisfactory extent. So Cage stumbles through his scenes, part of a decline that he cannot stop. A process that cannot be reversed.
