2. EINE Granate rein werfen. 3. - The Dirty Dozen is really fun, has pace and humour and a great plot: a bunch of murderers and rapists and tough guys are trained to wipe out a luxury castle where German officers are on holiday. That's what it all boils down to. The German officers and their concubines are locked in the hotel's bomb shelter and torched. With grenades (which the Germans of course try to dispose of like headless chickens). It goes like this: 1. Pour petrol into the air shaft. 2. throw ONE grenade in. 3. German officers bounce all over the place, burning alive. This is so wonderfully sadistically done that one wonders how such scenes could have passed the censors at all back then. Or vice versa: would such scenes still pass the censors today and or only run as a fragment on netflix? At least they burn in their clothes. Fortunately not naked. Otherwise it would probably have turned out differently and the censor would have had more work after all. In any case, The Dirty Dozen (1967) serves as a model for Inglorious Bastards (1978) as well as Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds (2009). A nice trilogy for a video night, isn't it?
