Das ist leider der schlechteste Barbra Streisand Film, ein grandioser, chaotischer Flop! Umso schlimmer, dass uns der Titel auf grausame Weise an Funny Girl erinnert und schlimmerweise ja auch die Fortsetzung ist. Barbra Streisand als Fanny Brice ohne irgendein Element, das den ersten Teil so liebenswert machte. Funny Girl (DVD1497) war Streisands erste Rolle. Sie war frech und vorlaut und sagenhaft talentiert! In Funny Lady sieht sie so unglücklich aus wie nie zuvor. Ihre Ehe mit Rose (James Caan) ist eine lose Abfolge von Ereignissen, die wir sofort vergessen und die auch nie interessieren. In Wahrheit ist sie auch nach wie vor in den langweiligen Nicky Arnstein verliebt. Dann taucht auch noch Nicky (Omar Sharif), der eine andere heiratet usw. usw. Natürlich hätte Regisseur Herbert Ross Funny Lady durch ein paar grosse Streisand Auftritte retten können - doch er versagt. Es gibt wahnsinnig schlechte Musiknummern ohne sie, schlimmer noch, Streisand geht innerhalb dieses spektakulären Flops unter. - Unfortunately, this is the worst Barbra Streisand film, a magnificent, chaotic flop! What makes it even worse is that the title cruelly reminds us of Funny Girl and, tragically, is also the sequel. Barbra Streisand plays Fanny Brice without any of the elements that made the first part so endearing. Funny Girl (DVD1497) was Streisand's first role. She was cheeky and sassy and incredibly talented! In Funny Lady, she looks more unhappy than ever before. Her marriage to Rose (James Caan) is a loose sequence of events that we immediately forget and that never interest us. In reality, she is still in love with the boring Nicky Arnstein. Then Nicky (Omar Sharif) shows up, who marries someone else, etc., etc. Of course, director Herbert Ross could have saved Funny Lady with a few big Streisand performances – but he fails. There are insanely bad musical numbers without her, and worse, Streisand goes under in this spectacular flop.
