FREE ON YOUTUBE (DU FINDEST DEN GANZEN FILM FREI AUF YOUTUBE) Es besteht kein Zweifel daran (und hilft enorm, Jim Jarmuschs Film zu verstehen), dass Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker) verrückt ist. Er kleidet sich wie ein Obdachloser und wohnt in einer Hütte zusammen mit Tauben. Ghost Dog hat keinen einzigen Freund. Ausgenommen: Ein kleines Mädchen und einen Mann aus Haiti (der kein Englisch spricht). Der Beruf von Ghost Dog: Killer. Er arbeitet für die Mafia, weil sein Samurai Codex das verlangt. Früher einmal rettete ein Mafioso Ghost Dog das Leben. Der Codex verlangt, dass Ghost Dog diesem Mann die Treue leistet. Der Mafioso heisst Louie (John Tormey) und schickt Ghost Dog Nachrichten mit Brieftauben. Einmal im Jahr wird Ghost Dog bezahlt. Ironie des Schicksals; als die Mafia Obersten Ghost Dog töten lassen wollen, wissen sie weder Namen, noch Adresse. Wie auch? Sämtliche Nachrichten wurden per Brieftaube überbracht. Wieso arbeitet ein Schwarzer für die Mafia? Und wieso lebt er wie ein Samurai? Fest steht nur, dass Ghost Dog erfüllt ist von tiefer Traurigkeit und getrennt lebt von allen anderen Menschen. Seine Auftrags-Morde rechtfertigt er mit dem Samurai Code, was auch sehr merkwürdig anmutet. Ganz nebenbei: Louie hält sich kein Stück an den Samurai Code. Trotzdem ist Ghost Dog sogar bereit, sich selbst zu zerstören! Um Sinnsuche geht es also offensichtlich nicht. Vielleicht einfach nur darum, uns einen möglichst hippen Plot irgendwie unterzujubeln? - There is no doubt (and helps enormously to understand Jim Jarmusch's movie) that Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker) is crazy. He dresses like a homeless man and lives in a shack together with pigeons. Ghost Dog doesn't have a single friend. Except: A little girl and a man from Haiti (who doesn't speak English). Ghost Dog's profession: killer. He works for the Mafia because his Samurai Codex demands it. Once upon a time a Mafioso saved Ghost Dog's life. The Code requires Ghost Dog to be loyal to this man. The mafioso's name is Louie (John Tormey) and he sends Ghost Dog messages with carrier pigeons. Once a year Ghost Dog gets paid. Irony of fate; when the Mafia wants to have Supreme Ghost Dog killed, they know neither name nor address. How could they? All messages were delivered by carrier pigeon. What's a black man doing working for the Mafia? And why does he live like a samurai? All that is certain is that Ghost Dog is filled with deep sadness and lives apart from all other people. He justifies his contract killings with the Samurai Code, which also seems very strange. By the way: Louie does not adhere to the Samurai Code at all. Nevertheless, Ghost Dog is even willing to destroy himself! So it's obviously not about the search for meaning. Maybe it's just about trying to somehow slip us a hip plot?
