Ein Epos von vier Stunden Länge ohne Stars, ohne eine Liebesgeschichte und ohne viel Action. Der Held ist der exzentrische, ja selbstmörderische T.E. Lawrence, der eine fast unmögliche Reise durch die Wüste überlebt. Bereits in Sicherheit kehrt er um, seinen Freund zu finden, der zurück blieb. Wir kennen die Szene. Ganz weit hinten am Horizont erscheint ein Fleck. Ein Fleck, der zu einem Mann wird. Oder kennen wir diesen Moment gar nicht? Wenn du die DVD bei uns leihst oder den Film streamst wirst du den Fleck auf dem TV Monitor kaum identifizieren. Tut mir leid, aber das ist ein Kinofilm! Ein 70mm Kinofilm! Nur im 70mm Format können wir einen Eindruck von der Weite der Wüste bekommen. Lawrence Of Arabia ist kein simpler Historienfilm. Es ist ein Werk über die Extravaganz der Wüste. Belegt ist: Lawrence gewann die Araber, für die Briten und gegen die Türken zu kämpfen. Tat er das aus Patriotismus? Der Film korrigiert das. Nein, vielmehr aus Pragmatismus. Im Grunde lehnte er die britische Seite ab und identifizierte sich mit den Arabern. Oder ist es wahr, dass Lawrence homosexuell war? Natürlich musste dieser Aspekt in einem so teuren Epos 1962 vorsichtig behandelt werden. Peter O'Toole spielt Lawrence. Ein gebrechlicher schöner Schauspieler. Kein gewöhnlicher Action Held, sondern einer, der erst noch erkannt werden wollte. Welches Geheimnis verbarg dieser Lawrence? Er spricht seltsam manieriert, wirkt genauso charismatisch wie verrückt. Wie konnte er die Araber dazu bringen, ihm durch die Wüste zu folgen? O'Toole spielt mindestens einen sozial als auch sexuell unkonventionellen Mann. Konnte so einer den Krieg gegen die Türken gewinnen? Er konnte. Ohne deren Rivalitäten zu erkennen, verbündet er sich mit den Wüstenfürsten Sherif Ali (Omar Sharif), Prinz Faisal (Alec Guinness) und Auda Abu Tayi (Anthony Quinn). Merkwürdigerweise aber beruht das folgende Epos weniger auf "Handlung" als vielmehr auf "Gefühl". Die Geschichte wird nicht in Dialogen mitgeteilt, sondern in den Aufnahmen der Wüste. Epos bezieht sich nicht so sehr auf die aufwändige Produktion, sondern tatsächlich auf die einzigartige künstlerische Vision! Leider, leider können wir eben diese Vision nicht in unserer Videothek anbieten. Du must versuchen, sie irgendwo auf 70mm zu sehen. Eine Aufgabe, die fast so schwer ist, wie die Produktion von Lawrence Of Arabia! - What kind of daring genius did it take to produce this film? An epic four hours long without stars, without a love story and without much action. The hero is the eccentric, even suicidal T.E. Lawrence, who survives an almost impossible journey through the desert. Already safe, he returns to find his friend, who stayed behind. We know the scene. A spot appears far back on the horizon. A spot that becomes a man. Or don't we know this moment at all? If you rent the DVD from us or stream the film you will hardly identify the spot on the TV monitor. I'm sorry, but this is a movie! A 70mm movie! Only in the 70mm format we can get an impression of the vastness of the desert. Lawrence Of Arabia is not a simple historical film. It is a work about the extravagance of the desert. It is proven: Lawrence won the Arabs to fight for the British and against the Turks. Did he do it out of patriotism? The film corrects that. No, rather out of pragmatism. Basically, he rejected the British side and identified with the Arabs. Or is it true that Lawrence was homosexual? Of course, this aspect had to be treated carefully in such an expensive epic in 1962. Peter O'Toole plays Lawrence. A frail beautiful actor. Not an ordinary action hero, but one who still wanted to be recognized. What secret did this Lawrence hide? He speaks in a strange manner, seems as charismatic as he is crazy. How could he get the Arabs to follow him through the desert? O'Toole plays at least one socially and sexually unconventional man. Could such a man win the war against the Turks? He could. Without realizing their rivalries, he allied himself with the desert lords Sherif Ali (Omar Sharif), Prince Faisal (Alec Guinness) and Auda Abu Tayi (Anthony Quinn). Strangely enough, the following epic is based less on "plot" than on "feeling". The story is not told in dialogues, but in the recordings of the desert. Epos refers not so much to the elaborate production, but to the unique artistic vision! Unfortunately, we can't offer this vision in our video store. You must try to see it somewhere on 70mm. A task almost as difficult as the production of Lawrence Of Arabia!
