Erst als er Ü-30 war, legte er 1967 seine erste Platte Songs Of Leonard Cohen vor. Und das in den 60ern! Ein radikale persönliches Album und die Single Suzanne war eines von Cohens Gedichten, dass er nun mit Musik unterlegte. Wer liebt nicht Bird On A Wire vom 69er Songs From A Room? Oder Everybody Knows vom 88er I'm Your Man? Und natürlich Halleluja! Überraschenderweise prägte Cohen filmisch vor allem einen Western! Robert Altmans Kapitalismus Parabel "McCabe & Mrs. Miller", der durchgängig mit Cohens Songs unterlegt ist. Eine Elegie über die Toten und für mich der traurigste Film überhaupt! Nicht die Dialoge bleiben in Erinnerung, sondern Cohens Musik. Altman baute die Songs von Songs Of Leonard Cohen ein, insbesondere Sisters Of Mercy - und bescherte dem Barden zum ersten Mal ein grosses Publikum. Wer jetzt nochmal die Cohen Alben durchhört, dem wirds so ergehen wie mir: Du fängst an - unmöglich zu stoppen! Du hörst die Songs, immer und immer wieder.
