Ah, Brooks selbst spielt Skroob, den Präsidenten von Spaceballs und Yogurt: "May the Schwartz be with you". Tat ers? Leider nicht. - FREE ON YOUTUBE Did Mel Brooks produce Spaceballs in 1987 for the Star Wars Jubilee Fire? May we now, almost 30 years later, use it as a bridge film to the second part of the new saga? Spaceballs, an all-round satire, with Dark Helmet and Pizza The Hut. I liked Spaceballs then and now conditionally, felt it was a kind of revival. I remember that he came to the cinema in the late 80's at a time when the Star Wars appetite was already dwindling (it was assumed that there would be nothing left after all...). Since 1968 Mel Brooks has specialized in satire movies. Some very loud laughs and many smaller ones can be found in his work. But Spaceballs seemed unworthy of a Mel Brooks at that time, because so many had already worked their way through the topic. And today? A breathtaking opening scene (almost like the original) is followed by a cheerful stupid story. All the heroes and villains look like clones of the original. Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Rick Moranis alias Dark Helmet and John Candy: Barf. Half man, half dog. Daphne Zuniga is Princes Vespa. Ah, Brooks himself plays Skroob, the president of Spaceballs and Yogurt: "May the Schwartz be with you". The humor of Spaceballs consists of such names, wordplays and a bit of suspended jokes. Visually, Brooks has had it all cost a lot, especially Pizza The Hutt is great! A giant pizza with pepperoni. Can you recommend Spaceballs? It depends. Is there enough laughter? I don't think so. Everything looks a bit like being made on an assembly line. What might Brooks true opinion about Star Wars be? But unfortunately he seems to take his brain out while making movies. Sometimes you almost think he's still writing for the television of the 50s, his humor seems so old-fashioned. In any case, Brooks is smarter than his own movie - as if he doesn't trust us anymore. In 1987 it was still hoped that "The Schwart" would help Brooks to realize his potential again as in better days. Indeed? Unfortunately not.
