Die Sprache der Selbst-Optimierung hat ihre eigenen Slogans. Diese Sprache beherrscht Matt bzw. Matthieu Vasseur (Pierre Niney), wenn er seine Zuhörer mitnimmt auf eine Reise in ihr mentales und emotionales Universum. "Es ist eure Welt", brüllt Matt; "Du bist, was du willst"! Nun muss das Publikum die Glückformel im Chor wiederholen. Seine Jünger müssen über erlittene Traumata sprechen, bis der Saal in Jubel und Ekstase ausbricht. Das ist die Industrie der Selbsthilfe. Für einen Schulabbrecher lebt Matt in annehmlichen Luxus. Erzählt wird das wie im Rausch mit spektakulären Effekten und permanenter Überzeichnung. Es ist das Psychogramm eines wendigen, aber zerrissenen Aufsteigers, eines Mannes, der ein bisschen Gott spielt. So spielt er mit der Gesundheit seiner Zuhörer (und leidet doch selbst unter Paranoia und cholerischen Wutausbrüchen). Matt ist ein Überlebenskämpfer, der bereit ist, alle Grenzen zu überschreiten. Matt – or rather, Matthieu Vasseur (Pierre Niney) – has mastered this language as he takes his audience on a journey into their mental and emotional universe. “It’s your world,” Matt shouts; “You are what you want to be”! Now the audience must repeat the formula for happiness in unison. His followers must talk about the traumas they have suffered until the hall erupts in cheers and ecstasy. This is the self-help industry. For a school leaver, Matt lives in comfortable luxury. The story is told in a frenetic style, with spectacular effects and constant exaggeration. It is a psychological portrait of an agile but conflicted social climber, a man who plays at being God to some extent. In this way, he toys with his listeners’ health (yet suffers himself from paranoia and choleric outbursts of rage). Matt is a fighter who will stop at nothing to survive. If necessary, he’ll even walk over dead bodies.
