Hollywood schwarze Liste

„Waren oder sind Sie Mitglied der kommunistischen Partei“ ist die Schlüsselfrage im amerikanischen Kino der 40er und 50er Jahre. Ende der 30er stellte man fest, dass wichtige Schlüsselpositionen Hollywoods von Kommunisten besetzt waren. Mission to Moscow stellt den Höhepunkt pro Russischer Filme dar und war Auslöser, derartiges in Zukunft zu verbieten. In Verhören, die frappant an Nazi Deutschland erinnerten begann 1947 die erste grosse Welle, Namen von Mitgliedern oder Querdenkern heraus zu bekommen. An der Spitze der Kampagne stand der Senator McCarthy, Symbol der McCarthy Ära. 1957 starb er an Alkoholismus. Die Hollywood Top Ten waren Autoren, die sogar ins Gefängnis gingen, 324 Filmschaffende waren insgesamt gelistet, 200 weitere verbannt. Das Arbeitsverbot sorgte dafür, dass Hollywood gar nicht mehr in der Lage war, dass normale Leben zu zeigen. Der soziale Alltag fand im Hollywood Kino dieser Zeit überhaupt nicht statt. Erst Querköüfe wie Stanley Kubrick und Otto Preminger beschäftigten Autoren, die gelistet waren. Preminger und Dalton Trumbo, einer der Top Ten schufen gemeinsam Exodus und Hollywoods Schwarze Liste war dem Untergang geweiht. Was wäre passiert, hätte es Hollywoods schwarze Liste nie gegeben? Wie hätte das Kino Hollywoods ausgesehen? Sieht man sich die Filme einmal an, ist man verwundert: Sie zeigen Amerika kritisch, aber immer im Vertrauen auf die demokratische Stärke des Landes. Amerika wird mit den Problemen schon fertig, so das Credo. Die Filme wirken wie Rückgriffe auf das kritische Kino der Depressionszeit. Was ging dem amerikanischen Kino verloren? Nicht nur Themen wie Rassismus, Sexismus, Denunziation, sondern die Kunst des direkten Erzählens vom Leben der einfachen Leute. Das wurde erst in Aussenseiterfilmen Ende der 50er und durch New Hollywood wiederbelebt. Immer wieder spricht man von Nicht-Hollywood Filmen, wenn es um diese Art von Film geht, dabei hat es ihn in Hollywood genauso gegeben wie im italienischen Neo-Realismus, nur wurde er zum Schweigen gebracht  - "Were or are you a member of the Communist Party" is the key question in American cinema of the 40s and 50s. At the end of the 30's it was noticed that important key positions in Hollywood were occupied by communists. Mission to Moscow represents the climax of Russian films and was the trigger to ban such things in the future. In 1947 the first big wave began in interrogations which were strikingly reminiscent of Nazi Germany, to get out names of members or unconventional thinkers. The campaign was headed by Senator McCarthy, symbol of the McCarthy era. He died of alcoholism in 1957. The Hollywood Top Ten were authors who even went to prison, 324 filmmakers were listed altogether, 200 more were banished. The work ban ensured that Hollywood was no longer able to show that normal life. The social everyday life did not take place at all in the Hollywood cinema of that time. It was only cross-pollinations such as Stanley Kubrick and Otto Preminger that employed authors who were listed. Preminger and Dalton Trumbo, one of the top ten, created Exodus together and Hollywood's black list was doomed. What would have happened if Hollywood's black list had never existed? What would Hollywood's cinema have looked like? If you look at the films, you're surprised: They show America critically, but always with confidence in the country's democratic strength. America is already dealing with the problems, according to the credo. The films seem like recourse to the critical cinema of the Depression era. What was lost to American cinema? Not only topics like racism, sexism, denunciation, but also the art of direct narration of the lives of ordinary people. This was only revived in outsider films in the late 50s and by New Hollywood. Time and again people talk about non-Hollywood films when it comes to this kind of film, but in Hollywood it existed just as in Italian Neo-Realism, only it was silenced.
