Casper feuert ihn an. "You don't have to worry about that"; lügt Terry zum Mädchen. Wieso, fragt sie etwas ängstlich. "Because I love you." - The problems of a video store before the Corona crisis were so nice and simple. Someone didn't bring me back the DVD of Kids and now I have to buy it again. Those were the days... You can also find Kids for free on YouTube, but unfortunately only in the German Synchro. And in Kids the dialogues are essential. Right at the beginning when Telly and his buddy Casper are walking through the streets of Manhattan and Telly is bragging about his latest conquest. Heartlessly he talks about it in detail and Casper drinks beer out of the bottle (which he probably stole). Telly goes on and every word hurts. Casper cheers him on. They talk about deflowering girls or ass-fucking them. It quickly becomes clear; both know no values at all, no frame of reference beyond immediate gratification. Like animals. But I think my two dogs love each other more than Telly and Casper could ever do! Then Casper stops and simply pisses in the street in front of all the passers-by. As if there weren't other people - grown-ups. You soon realise; Terry and Casper think they are alone in the world. This is the world Kids is about, directed by star photographer Larry Clark, written by Harmony Korine - who would later make a splash as an avant-garde filmmaker. It's a world full of teenagers riding their skateboards or riding the subway through Manhattan, drinking, fucking, taking drugs and showing off. Sometimes they just break down in a frenzy. The next day it starts all over again. Kids feel like a documentary. Telly, played by Leo Fitzpatrick, has one interest: Sex. He lies to girls and they listen to him. It's an oppressive study in self-involvement. "You don't have to worry about that"; lies Terry to girls. Why, she asks, a little afraid. "Because I love you." Terry completes his mission and tells Terry. That's roughly how Clark's dark photography works. You delve deep into the underworld of these kids. Manhattan is barely visible behind them. What is not between 12 and 17 doesn't exist. If you have kids, you can think of Telly as your worst nightmare. His voice sucks, and he's not pretty. What do the girls see in him? Maybe their curiosity about sex?
