Genauso wie in Terence Malicks Badlands wird auf ungeheure Weise ein abgründiges anderes Amerika gezeigt, in dem sich Liebespaare die Freiheit nehmen, zu töten. The honeymoon killers ist eine New Hollywood Perle, die nicht ganz so bekannt ist und deshalb unbedingt entdeckt werden muss! Das Thema aber ist bereits vorher von Godard (Pierrot le fou) und Hitchcock (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) gezeigt worden. Im Gefolge von Quentin Tarantinos Drehbüchern True romance und Natural Born Killers entsteht in den 90ern eine ganze Welle an Road Movies mit mordenden Paaren. Perdita Durango von Alex de la Iglesias wirkt etwas abgekupfert, Kalifornia auch, Thelma and Louise variiert das Thema auf zwei Frauen. In Frankreich schafft es Luc Besson, einen gestandenen Killer mit einem kleinen Mädchen als Nachwuchskillerin so geschmackvoll als Liebespaar zu zeigen, dass sogar die Bettszene nicht überrascht. Criminal lovers (Les amants criminels) von Francois Ozon kommt dagegen als dreckiger Underground Streich daher. Doberman schliesslich ist ein Fest der Sinne, in dem Gewalt gefeiert wird und Vindent Cassel zum ersten Mal mit Monica Bellucci spielt. Nur eines wurde nie heraus gefunden: „I can't say that Im sorry for the things that we done.
