Brilliant, wunderschön, witzig und traurig ist Nannis Morettis neuer Film! Margherita fällt es schwer, einfach "Action" zu sagen, so dass die Szene gespielt werden kann. In Gedanken ist sie bei ihrer Mutter Ada, die im Krankenhaus liegt und stirbt. Barry Huggins, der Hollywood Star, den Margherita für ihren neuen Film verpflichtet hat, tritt schliesslich an die Regisseurin heran und legt seine Hand auf ihre Wange. Eine Schlüsselszene, einfach, weil sie so schön ist! John Turturro spielt Barry Huggins so überdreht, dass er fast wie die Karikatur eines Stars wirkt. In diesem Moment aber, ist er in der Wirklichkeit angekommen. Was ist schon Realität? Was ist der Kern des Lebens? In Nanni Morettis Film ist es das nicht Fassbare - das, was wir nur erahnen können. Vordergründig verarbeitet Moretti eigene Erfahrungen, denn während seines letztens Drehs starb seine Mutter. Es geht aber nicht nur um den Abschied von der Mutter. Mia Madre ist ein Film über eine ganze Generation, die ihre Hoffnungen und Träume verloren hat. Marghe­rita und ihr Bruder Giovanni befinden sich privat und beruflich in der Krise. Margherita inszeniert immer noch kämpferische Filme von Kapitalisten und Arbeitern - obwohl sie nicht mehr an die eigene Wirkung glaubt. Sie ist als Filmemacherin gescheitert. Nanni Moretti aber gelingt das, was Margherita nicht mehr vermag: Mia Madre schafft diese Gradwanderung zwischen Wirklichkeit und Illusion, diesen kaum fassbaren Bereich. In der Unschärfe finden wir die Wahrheit über das Leben. Verfremdung ist das Mittel, Traum und Realität zu verwischen. Für kurze Momente, können wir das Dazwischen erblicken. But Nanni Moretti succeeds in what Margherita is no longer capable of: Mia Madre manages this balancing act between reality and illusion, this barely comprehensible area. In the blur we find the truth about life. Alienation is the means to blur dream and reality. For short moments, we can see the in-between. Just like Barry's beautiful gesture.
