Tasteless tweets about the Japanese tsunami have landed celebrities in trouble. So what makes people tell sick jokes about terrible disasters?

In Bruges (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 7988)

In Bruges (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 7988)

Completely on point for the apex black humour and the city of Bruges.
The bone man (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 8891 incl. engl. subs.)

The bone man (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 8891 incl. engl. subs.)

Messy, twisted, fun & whole lotta romance! keeps you awake & smiling.
Mammuth (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 2951 french/german)

Mammuth (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 2951 french/german)

Nothing could motivate your innate human freedom to come out more than a film with Gerard Depardieu traveling France on an old motorcycle.
Le Couperet (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 3279 french/german)

Le Couperet (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 3279 french/german)

Definitely not a masterpiece, but a very good film IMHO, good ideas, well built, good cast and thought provoking story.
A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 6350 swedish/german!)

A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 6350 swedish/german!)

Darkly comic depictions of death and life told entirely in static wide-angle, it doesn't take long to realise that you're the pigeon. I like everything about it apart from the fact that I found my attention wandering on occasion. There's often so little happening on screen, and at such a painstaking pace, that it's easy to lose focus. For those of a cynical, gallows sort of humour, there is much to love here.
The lobster (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 14.4.)

The lobster (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD4292)

anthimos depicts a subject society forces individuals to act social role like family & act oneself which is falsehood constructed by society. In this situation, do we act as true oneself by ourselves? In "Dogtooth"etc characters fail or get ambiguous consequence. But I think Colin Farrell reaches true oneself by pain & lost in truly Lanthimos-ish style. Cynical, gradually nihilistic but finally romantic masterpiece.
Dogtooth (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 1803 incl. engl. subs)

Dogtooth (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 1803 incl. engl. subs)

Disturbed people in pastel shades. A society satire dealing with the subjects of reality and family education, with absurd situations that may makes us laugh, but we can't help but choke on our laughter as disturbance becomes too serious to be funny.
Men & chicken (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 924 danish/german!)

Men & chicken (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 924 danish/german!)

Not as funny as I expected, but for that a lot smarter. I usually don't like it when in the end all answers are given, but this time it was worth it. This weird movie about a freak family goes well off the limits regarding good taste but when the secrets are revealed, it all makes sense. Even the excessive masturbation.
The green butchers (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 567 danish/german!!!)

The green butchers (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD 567 danish/german!!!)

This is often very funny (the fat butcher's musing on the sausage is a highlight) but ultimately a little disturbing, not because of the black humour, but because it's played so straight you wonder if you've wandered into a drama. Great art direction.
Man bites dog (Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo DVD 2622 incl. engl. subs)

Man bites dog (Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo DVD 2622 incl. engl. subs)

Darkest black comedy I ever saw, it's way too delirious and random but kind of interesting in a morbid way. The ending was so sudden it jump scared me and totally caught me off guard.
Blue Velvet (Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo DVD 1551)

Blue Velvet (Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo DVD 1551)

Probably with the 50s happy days looking opening from the start you can tell this film has a dark side with Lynch setting you up with a false sense of security. MacLachlan playing 'detective' that's way over his head and Rossellini as the abused victim are standout. And then there's Hopper, after reading the script apparently said he was the psychopath Frank. Unsettling but definitely a memorable performance.
Cosmos (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD - soon)

Cosmos (Filmkunst Fitzcarraldo DVD1779)

There's something tenaciously autobiographical about Żuławski's final work. His similarities to Gombrowicz's thoughts. Victória Guerra as an analogue to Marceau. His conclusion on the unsustainability of meaning to things: a tragedy of a comedy that is as formally interesting as ultimately lost in a lackluster cacophony of idiosyncrasies. But nonetheless it morbidly intrigues and fascinates.
