Wer mal auf dem Flohmarkt die billigen Abenteuerheftchen aus den 50ern findet - das sind die Vorbilder von Steven Spielbergs Indiana Jones. Bestimmt besitzt Spielberg, Jahrgang 1946, eine dicke Sammlung davon, die er immer wieder durchblättert, um neue Indiana Jones Abenteuer zu erfinden. Dabei kommen im Grunde sehr altmodische Blockbuster heraus, in denen man noch über phantastischen Abenteuer stolpert. Deshalb leuchten die Farben in den Indiana Jones Filmen auch genauso bunt wie in den Pulp Heftchen - in denen irgendwelche Abenteuer Kids in ihren Verstecken hocken und von wertvollen vergrabenen Schätzen hören. Einer von ihnen ist der junge Indiana (River Phoenix). Doch der wird von Forschern entdeckt, die einen alten Schatz plündern. Einer von ihnen verpasst Indiana seine Narbe, ein anderer setzt ihm seinen berühmten Filz-Hut auf. Schnitt. Wir befinden uns im zweiten Weltkrieg. Und schon sind wir mitten drin in der Indiana Jones Welt, die aus Copy & Paste besteht. Unglaubliche Stunts, wilde Verfolgungsjagden + trockener Humor - so die Formel. Genauso revolutionierte Spielberg das Abenteuer-Genre und verpasste ihm vor allem eine dicke Energie-Spritze. In diesem dritten Film übertrifft er sich noch einmal selbst und wir erfahren sogar etwas mehr von Indiana. Fortan darf er mehr sein als nur ein Comic Charakter. Diesmal jagt Indy nicht der jüdischen Ark hinterher, sondern dem heiligen Gral. In den Bonus Materialien unserer DVD wird darüber gesprochen, wie schwierig ist, einem solchen Kelch das nötige Abenteuer-Potential zu verleihen. Wer aus dem Kelch trinkt, dem wird ewige Jugend verliehen. Das erinnert wie besagt an die Bundeslade aus dem ersten Teil. Was neu ist: Wir erfahren mehr aus der Vergangenheit Indys sowie seinen echten Namen (den ich auf keinen Fall verrate!). Vor allem treffen wir seinen Vater Professor Henry Jones (Sean Connery). Die Bezeichnung Vater dürfte allerdings übertrieben sein, denn "Vater" war Henry nie. Heute darf er als Verbündeter seines Sohnes kämpfen. Wie ein Kumpel. Henry aber ist Wissenschaftler. Ein Theoretiker. Indianas Abenteuer Welt ist gänzlich neu für ihn! Es gibt solche Vater-Vorbilder übrigens auch in den Pulp Vorbildern und auch denen mangelt es an einer komplexen Eltern-Verbindung. Doch schliesslich würden die Kids eine solche auch gar nicht verstehen. Meistens sind diese Väter heilig oder verrückt. Henry ist beides. Harrison Ford leistet das, was wohl kein anderer Schauspieler könnte. Stets bleibt er ernst in all dem Indiana Jones Chaos. Todernst. Und immer behält er eine unheimliche Präsenz. Jedenfalls wird Henry entführt, da man davon ausgeht, der anerkannte Wissenschaftler wüsste, wo der Gral zu finden sei. Indiana folgt den Entführern mittles des Tagebuchs von Henry. Begleitet wird er von der blonden Dr. Elsa Schneider (Alison Doody). Denn Merke: Indiana wird immer von Blondinen begleitet. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" durfte als Wendepunkt des Abenteuer-Kinos gelten und Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade folgt dem. Dieselben Elemente werden wieder zusammen gesetzt und machen genauso viel Spass. Und emanzipiert sich von den Pulp Heftchen der 50er und ist nun fast ein echter Kino-Charakter. - If you ever find those cheap adventure booklets from the 50s at the flea market - these are the models of Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones. Spielberg, born in 1946, certainly has a large collection of them, which he flicks through again and again to invent new Indiana Jones adventures. The result is basically very old-fashioned blockbusters in which you still stumble over fantastic adventures. We are in World War II. And already we are in the middle of the Indiana Jones world, which consists of copy and paste. Incredible stunts, wild chases + dry humour - that's the formula. Spielberg revolutionized the adventure genre in the same way, and above all, he gave it a big energy boost. In this third film he surpasses himself once again and we even learn a little more about Indiana. From now on he can be more than just a comic character. This time Indy is not chasing the Jewish Ark, but the Holy Grail. In the bonus materials of our DVD we talk about how difficult it is to give such a goblet the necessary adventure potential. Whoever drinks from the goblet is given eternal youth. This reminds us of the Ark of the Covenant from the first part. What's new: We learn more about Indy's past and his real name (which I won't reveal under any circumstances!). First of all we meet his father Professor Henry Jones (Sean Connery). The term father might be exaggerated, because "father" never was Henry. Today he may fight as an ally of his son. Like a buddy. But Henry is a scientist. A theorist. Indiana's adventure world is completely new to him. By the way, there are such father role models in the Pulp Role Models and even they lack a complex parental connection. But in the end the kids wouldn't understand such a connection. Most of the time these fathers are holy or crazy. Henry is both. Harrison Ford does what no other actor could probably do. He always stays serious in all the Indiana Jones mess. Dead serious. And he always maintains an uncanny presence. In any case, Henry is abducted because it is believed the eminent scientist knows where to find the Grail. Indiana follows the kidnappers through Henry's diary. He is accompanied by the blond Dr. Elsa Schneider (Alison Doody). Remember: Indiana is always accompanied by blondes. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" could be considered the turning point of adventure cinema and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade follows. The same elements are put together again and are just as much fun. And emancipates itself from the pulp magazines of the 50s and is now almost a real cinema character.
