Im Mittelpunkt steht Gloria (Carmen Maura), eine Putzfrau. Ein nackter Mann unter der Dusche winkt ihr während der Arbeit zu und sie kann nicht widerstehen. Sie bewegt sich wie in Trance. Wären wir nicht in einem Almodovar Film, könnte das der Stoff einer geschmacklosen Szene sein. Doch hier ist es eine traurige, zugleich witzige und vor allem sehr realistische Szene. Eine tolle Szene! Gloria lebt in einer kleinen Wohnung. In einem Wohnblock ähnlich den weissen in Neukölln. Sie braucht Speed, um ihre 18 Stunden Tage zu durchstehen. Glorias Sohn verkauft Heroin, um seine Grossmutter eines Tages zurück aufs Land bringen zu können. Und ihr zweiter Sohn scheint sexuelle Beziehungen zu älteren Männern zu unterhalten. Deshalb verkauft Gloria ihn an einen homosexuellen Zahnarzt. Glorias Nachbarin heisst Cristal und sieht aus wie eine Mensch gewordene Barbie-Puppe. Sie arbeitet als Prostituierte. Deshalb will sie sich auch eine Domina Peitsche ausleihen. Willkommen in der bunten Almodovar Welt! Fehlt nur noch Glorias Ehemann, ein Schwein. Er ist Taxi-Fahrer, redet immerzu von längst vergangenen Zeiten. Deshalb erschlägt ihn seine Frau auch mit einem grossen Schinken-Knochen und kocht daraus anschliessend eine schöne Suppe. All das funktioniert wegen Carmen Maura, die manchmal ernsthaft, manchmal aufgesetzt und manchmal komisch auftritt. Sie ist die Frau der Empörung! Dürfen wir diesen ersten grossen Almodovar Film als "feministisch" bezeichnen? Bestimmt. Bestimmt ist es der liebevollste und witzigste feministische Film seiner Zeit! - A new age has dawned!
