Tim Burtons Batman sah noch aus wie die visuell sehr gelungene Verfilmung eines Comics. Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight geht weit darüber hinaus. Das hier ist eine unheimliche Tragödie! Eine düstere Tragödie aus einer Art Gegenwelt. Die Figuren sind uns wichtig! Genau das definiert das Genre Comic Film ganz neu und das liegt an Nolans toller Regie. Denn: The Dark Knight ist keine triviale Geschichte um Gut vs. Böse. Natürlich steht Batman auf der Seite des Guten, aber er wird auch von den Bürgern von Gotham City beschuldigt, Selbstjustiz zu üben und zahlreiche Polizisten auf dem Gewissen zu haben. Der Joker auf der anderen Seite verkörpert zwar das Böse; vor allem aber sind alle seine Handlungen darauf ausgelegt, die Feinde in ein moralisches Dilemma zu bringen. Die Schlüsselfigur ist Heath Ledger als Joker. Ein schlampig geschminkter Clown, dessen schrilles Lachen die tiefen inneren Wunden verrät, die ihm sein Vater als Kind beibrachte. Dabei entwirft er immer wieder Situationen, die seine Gegner Batman (Christian Bale) und Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) zu unmöglichen ethischen Entscheidungen zwingen. Wird am Ende gar das Fundament der "guten" Batman Legende bedroht? Zum Glück drängen die Effekte nie das Menschliche in den Hintergrund. Und wir sind überrascht, wie sehr uns das menschliche Drama berührt! Im normalen Comic Film hält man immer etwas Abstand zum Geschehen. Viel passiert, viel explodiert, aber so richtig involviert sind wir nie. In The Dark Knight ist das anders. Wir können uns nicht erwehren. Der Film greift uns an. Joker setzt alles daran, die guten Kräfte zu demütigen und Batmans Identität aufzudecken. Doch der Joker kennt Batmans Identität nicht. Erklärte uns Nolans mit dem Auftakt seiner Trilogie "Batman Begins" die Ursprünge des Superhelden, ist dieses Mal der Joker an der Reihe. Aber seine Vergangenheit wird nicht durch Rückblenden, sondern in Dialogen aufgearbeitet. Batman und Joker haben gemein, dass sie als Kinder stark litten. Batman kompensiert das damit, Gutes zu tun; Joker, indem das Gute demütigt. Jedenfalls darf The Dark Knight als erster wahrhaft tiefgründiger Comic Film gelten, in dem es um Traumata, Ängste und Hoffnungen geht. Das betrifft nicht nur den Joker; auch Bruce Wayne ist ein zutiefst gestörter Mensch. - Tim Burton's Batman still looked like the visually very successful film adaptation of a comic. That's what redefines the comic film genre and that's because of Nolan's great directing. Because: The Dark Knight is not a trivial story about good vs. evil. Of course, Batman is on the side of good, but he is also accused by the citizens of Gotham City of taking the law into his own hands and having numerous police officers on his conscience. The Joker, on the other hand, embodies evil, but above all, his actions are designed to create a moral dilemma for his enemies. The key figure is Heath Ledger as Joker. A sloppily made-up clown whose shrill laughter betrays the deep inner wounds his father taught him as a child. In the process, he repeatedly creates situations that force his opponents Batman (Christian Bale) and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) to make impossible ethical decisions. Will the foundation of the "good" Batman legend be threatened in the end? Fortunately, the effects never push the human aspect into the background. And we are surprised how much the human drama touches us! In a normal comic movie you always keep some distance to the events. A lot happens, a lot explodes, but we are never really involved. In The Dark Knight it's different. We can't fight back. The film attacks us. Joker does everything he can to humiliate the good forces and expose Batman's identity. But the Joker doesn't know Batman's identity. If Nolans explained the origins of the superhero to us in the opening of his trilogy "Batman Begins", this time it's the Joker's turn. But his past is not dealt with through flashbacks, but in dialogue. Batman and Joker have in common that they suffered greatly as children. Batman compensates by doing good; Joker by humiliating the good. In any case, The Dark Knight can be considered the first truly profound comic film that deals with traumas, fears and hopes. This is not only about the Joker; Bruce Wayne is also a deeply disturbed person.
