Ich weiss, die allermeisten Kunden unserer Videothek hassen She Hate Me. Ich aber nicht. Erzählt wird die Geschichte eines Whistleblowers, der zum Auftragsmörder wird. Das darf man allerdings nur als ein Fünftel dieses Films betrachten, der niemals so recht weiss, was er denn nun eigentlich sein will. Zu einem Fünftel also eine Anklage gegen die moderne Unternehmens-Kultur. Der Whistleblower wird allerdings auch noch zu einem gefragten Liebhaber, der lesbische Frauen schwängert. Immerhin für 10.000 Dollars! In einem dritten Fünftel schwängert er eine Tochter der Mafia, gespielt von der Original Monica Bellucci. Der Godfather: John Turturro. Ganz nebenbei taucht Frank Wills (Chiwetel Ejiofor) auf. Das ist der Wachmann, der die Nixon Regierung zu Fall brachte (viertes Fünftel). Das letzte Fünftel erzählt die Geschichte eines schwarzen Mannes, der die Verantwortung für seine Kinder übernimmt, indem er sie mit seiner lesbischen Ex-Freundin (Kerry Washington) gross ziehen will. Viele machen Spike Lee den Vorwurf, dass hier ganze 18 Lesben einen Mann dafür bezahlen, sie zu schwängern. Sechs pro Nacht mit brausendem Orgasmus. 17 von ihnen werden selbstverständlich schwanger. Und was bedeutet es, für die eigenen Kinder da zu sein? Dass man sich ungefragt einem lesbischen Paar aufdrängt als Mann im Hause? Auch das gab Ärger bei euch. Bestimmt weiss Spike Lee selbst, dass seine lesbische Nebenhandlung emotional absurd ist. Vermutlich weiss er auch, dass man keine Filme über korrupte Firmen anfängt und dann ganz woanders landet. Ich denke, Spike Lee zieht hier gegen die politische Korrektheit zu Felde. Beispielsweise dürfte der Film es müde sein, dass ein schwarzer Whistleblower automatisch gut und edel sein muss. Stattdessen feiert er lauter Ideen, die doch eigentlich verboten sind. Er macht Witze über die Potenz des schwarzen Mannes. Hollywood Konzepte wirft er einfach über Bord und gebärt sich sarkastisch und wütend. Und dann? Dann geht Spike Lee diesen Weg mit grossem Mut bis zum Ende und ist sich nicht einmal für eine Seifenoper zu schade. Wer hätte das gedacht? Niemand. And what does it mean to be there for your own children? Forcing yourself on a lesbian couple without being asked, as the man of the house? That's another thing that got you in trouble. I'm sure Spike Lee himself knows that his lesbian subplot is emotionally absurd. He probably also knows that you don't start films about corrupt companies and then end up somewhere else entirely. I think Spike Lee is going against political correctness here. For example, the film should be tired of the idea that a black whistleblower must automatically be good and noble. Instead, he celebrates loud ideas that are actually forbidden. He makes jokes about the potency of the black man. He simply throws Hollywood concepts overboard and gives birth sarcastically and angrily. And then? Then Spike Lee takes this path with great courage to the end and is not even too shy for a soap opera. Who would have thought that? Nobody. Exactly.
