Sarkastischer Humor mit einem schwarzen Herz, das ist der Tonfall von Sightseers. Nicht überraschend, wenn man weiss, dass hier eine Komödie des Briten Ben Wheatley kommt, der das Kino schon ein paar Mal ganz neu erfand! Chris holt Tina ab (die noch bei ihrer Mutter lebt), um mit ihr die Ferien im Wohnmobil zu verbringen. Es ist zunächst nicht erkennbar, dass Chris ein Killer ist. Er möchte Tina an seinem Wissen teilhaben lassen und ihr schöne Ferien spendieren. Problematischerweise aber, hat er sich nicht im Griff. Überhaupt nicht! Ungezogenheit und üble Manieren kränken diesen sehr nachtragenden Mann eben. Zunächst einmal ist Tina vom tollen Sex mit ihm überwältigt und davon, endlich Freiheit zu spüren ohne die furchtbare Mutter! Ein schönes Dorf ist ihre erste Station, dort wo die britische Geschichte noch lebendig wirkt. Leider schmeisst ein Trottel sein Kaugummi Papier auf den Boden. Kurz darauf ergreift Chris einfach die Chance, den dreckigen Umweltverschmutzer mit seinem Caravan zu Tode zu fahren. Tina und Chris wischen das Blut von den Reifen und lassen die Leiche verschwinden. Chris findet, dass solche Umweltverschmutzer alles ruinieren, schlimmer noch, dieser hat nun eine von Chris liebsten Kulturstätten versaut! Vergeben werden darf das nicht! Eine tiefere Motivation steckt hinter seinen Taten: Was bedeutet es heute, Engländer zu sein? Ganz klar: Zuerst sollte man nicht seinen Müll verstreuen. Genauso wichtig: Man sollte niemals prahlen. Diejenigen, welche diese Regeln brechen, sind der Abschaum Grossbritanniens und niemand wird sie vermissen! Die wilde Gegend der Midlands atmet noch die Grösse des Königreichs und es zeugen noch Spuren davon, dass hier einst die industrielle Revolution begann. Chris verkörpert die Wiedergeburt eines viktorianischen Adeligen, der sich noch an der herrlichen Landschaft erfreuen kann. Später wird er im entlegenen Moor einen frechen Touristen mit einem Stein den Schädel zermatschen. Tina jammert, sie hätte nie geglaubt, mal einen Unschuldigen zu ermorden. Chris aber weist sie zurecht: "He's not a person. He's a Daily Mail reader". Seine Morde werden immerhin dadurch gerechtfertigt, dass er sich selbst als Intellektuellen sieht und den modernen Mann vernichtet. Als Tina später auch anfängt, zu morden, geschieht das ohne philosophisches Grundgerüst. Sie schmeisst einfach eine fremde Frau von der Brücke, die gerade ihre Bachelorette Party geniesst. Die Darsteller Alice Lowe und Steve Oram sind beide Standup Comediens aus den Midlands. Sie entwickelten ihre Charaktere Tina und Chris über die Jahre als Reihe von Sketches. Wheatley hat daraus schliesslich einen Kinofilm gemacht. Es ist atemberaubend, die beiden Killer in der melancholischen Landschaft Englands zu erleben, im Nebel, auf einsamen Strassen und im satten Grün. Ich mochte bisher alle Wheatley Filme, obwohl sie mir manchmal auch verschlossen blieben. Sightseers ist düster, grauenvoll und von fröhlicher Amoralität. Vor allem aber sehr geschlossen und unterhaltsam! Wheatleys bis dahin grösster Wurf! - Sarcastic humour with a black heart, that's the tone of Sightseers. Not surprising when you know that there's a comedy by Ben Wheatley, who has reinvented cinema a few times! Chris picks up Tina (who still lives with her mother) to spend the holidays with her in the motorhome. At first it's not obvious that Chris is a killer. He wants to share his knowledge with Tina and give her a nice holiday. Problematically, however, he does not have himself under control. Not at all! Naughtiness and bad manners offend this very resentful man. First of all Tina is overwhelmed by the great sex with him and by finally feeling freedom without the terrible mother! A beautiful village is her first stop where British history still seems alive. Unfortunately, a fool throws his chewing gum paper on the floor. Shortly afterwards Chris takes the chance to drive the dirty polluter to death with his caravan. Tina and Chris wipe the blood off the tires and make the body disappear. Chris thinks that such polluters ruin everything, even worse, he has now ruined one of Chris's favourite cultural sites! This must not be forgiven! A deeper motivation is behind his actions: What does it mean to be an Englishman today? Quite clearly: First you should not scatter your garbage. Just as important: You should never brag. Those who break these rules are Britain's scum and nobody will miss them! The wild Midlands still breathes the greatness of the kingdom and there are still traces of the industrial revolution that began here. Chris embodies the rebirth of a Victorian nobleman who can still enjoy the magnificent scenery. Later he will smash a cheeky tourist's skull with a stone in the remote moor. Tina complains that she never thought she'd kill an innocent man. But Chris rebukes her: "He's not a person. He's a Daily Mail reader". After all, his murders are justified by the fact that he sees himself as an intellectual and destroys the modern man. When Tina later also begins to murder, this happens without a philosophical framework. She simply throws a strange woman from the bridge who is enjoying her bachelorette party. Actors Alice Lowe and Steve Oram are both Standup comedians from the Midlands. They developed their characters Tina and Chris over the years as a series of sketches. Wheatley finally made a movie out of it. It is breathtaking to see the two killers in the melancholic landscape of England, in the fog, on lonely roads and in the lush green. I liked all Wheatley movies so far, although sometimes they remained closed to me. Sightseers is dark, horrible and of cheerful amorality. But most of all very closed and entertaining! Wheatley's biggest litter to date!
