Man Up wirft uns so ziemlich alle Klischees der Romantic Comedy vor die Füsse: Das niedliche Kennenlernen, die bekloppten Freunde, die besoffenen Dates oder die falsche Identität... Sogar das öffentliche Bekennen der romantischen Gefühle - Vergleiche mit anderen Standarts des Genres sind nicht nur passend, sie sind unausweichlich. Zum Glück aber sind Simon Pegg und Lake Bell so unpassende RomCom Stars, die auch noch eine so knisternde Chemie miteinander entwickeln - sie helfen uns über so manchen Engpass des Plots hinweg. Nancy (Bell) ist Mitte dreissig und vom Dating-Markt ziemlich genervt. Im Zug nach London, legt ihr die Sitznachbarin einen Beziehungsratgeber auf den Tisch. Nancy, die schläft, wacht auf und kann das Geschenk nun nicht mehr ablehnen. In Waterloo Station hält sie nach der Besitzerin des Buches Ausschau - und wird von einem Mann angesprochen: Jack (Pegg) hat Humor und kann mühelos aus Filmklassikern zitieren. Das Buch war das Erkennungsziechen für ihr gemeinsames Blind Date. Schon sind wir mittendrin in einer erwachsenen RomCom und natürlich gibt es noch so manche Verwicklung... Zum Glück bietet Man Up genügend Wendungen und Twists, dass diese nur zu gut bekannte Reise ins RomCom Genre doch auch manchmal überraschend daherkommt. - Man Up is throwing pretty much all the clichés of romantic comedy under our feet: The cute getting to know each other, the crazy friends, the drunken dates or the false identity... Even the public confession of romantic feelings - comparisons with other standards of the genre are not only appropriate, they are inevitable. Fortunately, Simon Pegg and Lake Bell are such inappropriate RomCom stars who also develop such a sizzling chemistry together - they help us over many a bottleneck in the plot. Nancy (Bell) is in her mid-thirties and quite annoyed by the dating market. On the train to London, the person sitting next to her puts a relationship guide on the table. Nancy, who is sleeping, wakes up and can no longer refuse the gift. In Waterloo Station she looks for the owner of the book - and is approached by a man: Jack (Pegg) has a sense of humor and can easily quote from film classics. The book was the identification target for their joint blind date. Already we are in the middle of an adult RomCom and of course there are still so many entanglements... Fortunately, Man Up offers enough twists and turns that this well known journey into the RomCom genre sometimes comes as a surprise.
