Sofia Coppola ist eine Filmemacherin, die in Frankreich als "Auteur" bezeichnet würde. Eine persönliche Filmemacherin, deren Werk einem roten Faden folgt. Alle Filme von Coppola handeln von Isolation und Gefangenschaft. Der Käfig mag vergoldet sein und manchmal ist der Wärter des Käfigs sogar Elvis Presley. Der lernte Priscilla Beaulieu 1959 kennen als er in der Armee diente und in Deutschland stationiert war. Priscilla war zu diesem Zeitpunkt 14 Jahre alt. Der Film beruht nun auf ihren Memoiren „Elvis and Me“ und folgt der Perspektive von Priscilla. Viele finden es gruselig, dass Elvis eine 14jährige eroberte, doch Priscillas Perspektive eines schüchternen Mädchens handelt nicht davon. Die Welt von Elvis sieht schön aus, die Villa Graceland noch nicht so kitschig wie heute. Priscilla aber weiss nichts so recht mit sich anzufangen. Während die Film-Karriere ihres Mannes von Colonel Tom Parker schlecht gemanagt wird, soll sie daheim bleiben. Wozu ist sie überhaupt da? Elvis weigert sich, mit ihr zu schlafen. In Deutschland teilt er der Neuntklässlerin mit, dass seine Mutter gerade gestorben ist und er ein Mädchen zum Reden sucht. Beide sind naiv. Elvis träumt davon, ein ernsthafter Schauspieler zu werden. Priscilla träumt nur davon, mit ihm zusammen zu sein. Alles wird ganz ruhig vorgeführt und lebt von der atemberaubenden Darstellung von Caillee Spaeney. Sie spielt Priscilla in ihrem goldenen Käfig und schliesslich bemerken wir, dass auch Elvis am Ende zum Gefangenen wird. Seine Falle heisst Las Vegas und seine Tragödie wird zu Priscillas Befreiung. - Sofia Coppola is a filmmaker who would be described as an ‘auteur’ in France. The cage may be gilded, and sometimes the cage guard is even Elvis Presley. He met Priscilla Beaulieu in 1959 while serving in the army and stationed in Germany. Priscilla was 14 years old at the time. The film is based on her memoir, Elvis and Me, and follows Priscilla's perspective. Many find it creepy that Elvis seduced a 14-year-old, but Priscilla's perspective as a shy girl is not about that. Elvis's world looks beautiful, Graceland not yet as kitschy as it is today. But Priscilla doesn't really know what to do with herself. While her husband's film career is poorly managed by Colonel Tom Parker, she is supposed to stay at home. What is she there for anyway? Elvis refuses to sleep with her. In Germany, he tells the ninth-grader that his mother has just died and he is looking for a girl to talk to. Both are naive. Elvis dreams of becoming a serious actor. Priscilla dreams only of being with him. Everything is presented very calmly and brought to life by Caillee Spaeney's breathtaking performance. She plays Priscilla in her golden cage, and eventually we realise that Elvis also becomes a prisoner in the end. His trap is called Las Vegas, and his tragedy becomes Priscilla's liberation.
