(NOMADENKINO ZEIGT DEN FILM AM 28.8.18 UM 20.45 IM ABOUT BLANK, MARKGRAFENDAMM 24C, 10245 BERLIN) Nomadenkino zeigt Nico, 1988 im About Blank. Wo sonst? “I very rarely take showers"; sagt Nico und zerlegt weiter ihren Körper mit Heroin. Danke dafür an Nico, 1988! - (NOMADENKINO SHOWS THE FILM on 28.8.18 at 20.45 IM ABOUT BLANK, MARKGRAFENDAMM 24C, 10245 BERLIN) Nomadic cinema shows Nico, 1988 in About Blank. Where else? To me, the inmates of About Blank Nico's followers. Or the other way around: Nico left traces and one of them is shops like About Blank. Of course I mean this in the most positive sense! The About Blank opposes the new Berlin, where everything is getting trendier and chicer. Just as Nico rebelled against the world around her. How did it all start? With Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol, he was ultimately a number too big for Nico. The most beautiful of his "superstars" was bored and dissatisfied after he had "made" them. A woman, unusually gifted by nature, only that she could not enjoy these gifts. Nico hated her beauty, which brought her to the front page of French Vogue as a teenager. She was tired of life, of love, of sex. Much of her life she spent getting heroin. She took the path of a singer, even though she hated to sing and couldn't hold a note. Death, when it finally came in 1988, must have been like a redemption for Nico! Nico alias Christa Paffgen was born in Cologne in 1939. She lived in Paris during the 50s, had a short appearance in Fellini's La_Dolce_Vita. Then Bob_Dylan introduced her to Andy Warhol. Nico performed in Chelsea Girls (where she played constantly and nervously with her hair) and promoted The Velvet Underground. She beat the tambourine, sang together with Lou Reed, one of her many lovers. When Warhol's following dissolved, Nico drifted back to Europe, formed a band and toured. Her whole life she was in a tour bus waiting for the next fix. Nico was proud of her oily hair and rotten teeth. A middle-aged junkie. In 1986 she switched to methadone, in 1988 she died because she exposed herself too much to the sun, according to her son Ari. Oooooh! REALLY? Nico, 1988 now shows her late years as a moribund singer striving to destroy her beauty. A film that has nothing to do with the model Nico or The Velvet Underground. The common opinion about Nico, she simply became ugly and fat after her time with The Velvet Underground, obviously doesn't share director Susanna Nicchiarelli. It focuses entirely on the second half of life. We don't see the Dolce_Vita Nico that drove Jim_Morrison or whoever crazy, but just the last two years of this middle-aged junky. "I very rarely take showers"; says Nico and continues to dismember her body with heroin. Again and again Nico is described as ruthless (she who fixed her own son) and paranoid and yet in the 80s she still got works of art like The Marble Index. Isn't she the mother of the Siouxsie Sioux or Bauhaus generation? I collected a whole collection of playlists for our New Wave Wednesday at the Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo, but I really have to add Nico now! Her late work! Thanks to Nico, 1988! The actress Trine Dyrholm not only looks exactly like Nico, she also gives us the memory of this late artist. Perhaps the inventor of the "zero-frame generation". And the About Blank. -
