- Does anyone remember the South Central trilogy by John Singleton? Well, Poetic Justice is the second film set in South Central, Los Angeles, the first being Boyz N the Hood. Poetic Justice now tells about life in South Central from the perspective of a woman named Justice (Janet Jackson). At the very beginning, Justice has a date with her boyfriend at the drive-in movie theater. After an exchange of words at the snack stand, her boyfriend is shot. Note: self-respect is so vanishingly low here that people are killed after minor insults. When Justice awakens from her grief, she is determined to make it on her own. After all, what good is it to tie her heart to a man who will be murdered at the slightest incident? She works in a beauty salon and one day she leads the letter carrier mailman (Tupac Shakur) around by the nose. And as luck would have it.... When her friend Simone (Khandi Alexander) invites her to go with her to Oakland, she is accompanied by a certain letter carrier. Poetic Justice unfolds like a road movie from the early 70s - from the New Hollywood era. That's why the plot may not be so stringent. It is enough that the characters are introduced to embark on a journey. This journey will become a journey of discovery and Justice will learn to love and trust again. And Shakur will finally learn to listen to a woman. In general, all the protagonists will learn that they belong to one big family and that is the African-American family. This happens in the greatest scene of the film through the words of the poet Maya Angelou. And Justice? Well she too is a poet and she is supposed to develop into a good person. That's why her romance with Shakur is so touching, because both are not innocent, but know the risks and pitfalls of love. Now se must learn to accept each other. Poetic Justice is a gentle, warm film. Less a social film than a love film. In the end we realize that "Boyz" is just a part about South Central.
