- Glass is the sequel to Split and thus the very first sequel M. Night Shyamalan has made in his career. And Glass concludes a trilogy that begins with Unbreakable. Just like Split, Glass is set in the universe of Unbreakable and brings together two of Shyamalan's strangest films. Ahead, his promise from Split is fulfilled as the Freudian brain in Unbreakable ES is balanced into the DID-plagued Kevin Crumb (James McAvoy), the super me David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and the moderator between good & evil Elijah Price aka Mr Glass (Samuel L Jackson). There are clever twists, eternally monologuing heroes and a lot of ambition. Unfortunately, however, the action never really gets going. The driving energy is missing because nothing is comprehensible here. Previously, Shyamalan had presented protagonists who were thrust into life-changing situations. Now in Glass, the heroes are to be convinced that they are in no way "super" (although they can demonstrably walk up walls). Unfortunately, new insights are lacking, the film treads water. Take the test: What do you know at the end of Glass that you didn't know at the beginning?
