Was gibt's noch? - Who remembers the year 1988? We all waited for a new Star Wars from George Lucas and got "Willow" instead. A fantasy film, written and produced by George Lucas, directed by Ron Howard. Ooooch... But now Ron Howard has made his first official Star Wars movie based on a script by original Star Wars author Lawrence Kasdan. Even if it's just a Star Wars story, an offshoot. First of all: Solo: A Star Wars Story is not bad. Sometimes funny, sometimes surprising, but above all unfortunately a little too planned. A planned hit. The story of Han Solo meeting Chewbacca for the first time before he even sets off with the Millennium Falcon... A service for the fans! But did we really want to know who Han Solo's father was? How he grew up? Isn't he the Westerner of the show. The charming daredevil who's enough for himself? The Wookie and the production story itself can surprise us. After all - as we can read - two up-and-coming directors overcame each other and only after their failure, Luca's friend Ron Howard was allowed to take over. What else is there? Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo is of course much more innocent than Harrison Ford in his role. Much better natured and therefore also more boring. His counterpart, Emilia Clarke, can hardly unfold the aura of a dragon mother here. So that we can still experience many more sequels, her figure is hardly defined. Isn't it bad what the glut of series is doing to the cinema? As always best; Woody Harrelson as a buccaneer and Donald Glover as Lando. Harrelson plays surprisingly reserved, Glover gives a great space dandy. At Landos' side is not a woman, but a machine: L3-37. A droid with a woman's voice to fall in love with. Wherever L3-37 goes, it invites the robots to rebellion. Just like a modern activist (pardon). Solo: a Star Wars Story = Western Motive + Alien Action plus a bit of Rick's Cafe - a bar where aliens sing Bossanova. And who knew that Chewbacca was already 180 years old when he met Han Solo? However, I had never looked more closely at how the age adjustment between wookies and humans is weighted. (transl. deepl.com)
