Was wollen sie? Ohne Special Effects wäre all das natürlich wertlos. - Who doesn't love them, the epic science fiction adventures with their cosmic worlds and simple truths about human nature? We prefer to go all the way into these new unknown spheres! The Star Trek crew is at least as well known to the not so young geeks among us as the own family. A problem! In a way the Star Trek crew undermines the Star Trek movie, all the more as some trekkies are almost obsessed with Kirk, Spock, Bones & Co! This beats with the "miracle" that science fiction films are about! As we are now - 2017 - in the middle of a science fiction retro movement, the pictures of this 1979 Star Trek film are all the more important! The plot of a Star Trek adventure is finally predictable and includes the realization of two TV episodes: The confrontation of the Enterprise with an unknown alien species, including a solution in which our humanistic values prevail. Here, too, a foreign alien species is moving from the edge of the universe towards the Earth. Where do they come from? What do they want? Without Special Effects all this would be worthless, of course. So are the special effects of this 79 adventure by Robert Wise successful - seen from the perspective of today's retro geeks? It's them! At that time this was not self-evident. If you read wikipedia, you can read how the first Special Effects team was fired and a second one reworked the movie - with an enormously over budget. The Enterprise must intentionally look like other ships from the'70s. Similarities with "Silent Running", "Alien" and especially "2001: A Space Odyssey" are unmistakable. The second spaceship, on the other hand, looks more original and much better! It seems to expand endlessly in all directions; a spaceship without limits! But how about the human side (in the case of Mr. Spock one has to correct: "half-human" side)? We know the characters, they are part of our culture. Space folklore. Somehow, however, this familiarity counteracts the effectiveness of the film! On the one hand, there are incomprehensible alien forces - on the other, television pop stars. For the Trekkie this is nice, he recognizes familiar things and is allowed to draw references. Unfortunately, however, every illusion is broken by the well-known inventory. What about the 2017 geek? He may rummage even more in the postmodern Quote Theatre - and he will find! (transl. deepl.com)
