Warum? - They proudly reside in their Cadillacs from the 50s, from a time when the Cadillac was the best car ever. Simple, because it was the biggest car! They put their jewels in front of the diner, drink coffee, pass the time. They call themselves Tin Men. They sell aluminium facades, a horrible invention that was a big deal in Baltimore in the late 1950s. One day BB's (Richard Dreyfuss) Cadillac is rammed by Tilley's (Danny DeVito) Cadillac. The feud between BB and Tilley is the center of Tin Men and also the main thing in the lives of these desperate middle-aged salesmen. They are afraid of losing their jobs and they fear the law that has their sales practices investigated. Until then, they continue to trick their customers into buying the aluminum facades and meet after work to exchange their lies and philosophy. BB finds out everything about Tilley and even seduces his wife (Barbara Hershey). But the plan fails: Tilley hates his wife, tries to get rid of her. BB but falls in love... Basically, Barry Levinson's comedy is about immature men (who probably never grow up). They spend their time at the diner, obsessed with sex and women. Why do BB and Tilley hate each other so much? Because they hate themselves so much. Why? They are ashamed of what they do and no Cadillac can conceal their lack of prestige. Doubts about the depth of their characters are appropriate at BB as well as Tilley. Barry Levinson's comedy is based on a fundamental truth and that also makes the quieter gags work. Tin Men's humour always hurts a little. (transl. deepl.com)
