New York liegt hinter ihm. - Abel Ferrara is very, very important to me! That's why you can find the complete early work (even a nice DVD version of "Miss 45") and the obscure late work in our video library. And of course the classics from the early 90s! You can find everything in our author's sorting under Ferrara, Abel in the basement of the video store. "Tommaso" is a coarse-grained, soul-destroying self-portrait. Willem Dafoe is Ferrara, and he literally rips his heart out. If you read a little more about it, you will come across the New York underground icon claiming that Dafoe is not Ferrara. But this is not credible. After all, Ferrara's wife Cristina Chiriac also plays Dafoe's wife. And Anna Ferrara plays the daughter. Ferrara shot the film at home. And how does Tommaso or Ferrara imagine family life? Easier. More satisfying. But of course the child wakes up when the partners want to be alone. Just like Ferrara, Tommaso was considered the enfant terrible of the New York underground scene. Wild days lie behind him. He was addicted, but today he attends self-help meetings. New York is behind him. Tommaso now lives in a foreign country. In a strange city. He doesn't speak Italian - even if his roots are there. But if you read more about the film, you will have problems with my oh so simple interpretation. Because Willem Dafoe also lives with a younger woman in Rome today. Just like Ferrara and Tommaso. We notice; reality and fiction are flowing. In Aramaic, Tommaso or Thomas means as much as twin. And finally, Ferrara and Dafoe have already made six films together (were there six or five?). Then Tommaso would be a twin. A double. He escaped the "original" from the hell of excess. It's like a rebirth. So we can understand the different levels of truth in Ferrara's film.
