Eigentlich ist jeder unfähig, sich in der modernen Welt zurecht zu finden. Ganz besonders aber Monsieur Hulot (Tati). Er ist sogar noch viel schlimmer dran als wir! Vor allem stehen ihm ständig seine guten Absichten im Wege. Jeder Schritt stürzt ihn nur noch weiter ins Unglück. Ein Missgeschick jagt das nächste (und begann ursprünglich als simpler Gefallen). Einmal versucht Hulot, die Frau des Mechanikers zu wecken. Bei dem Versuch reisst er das Efeu von der Wand. Er klettert hinauf, das Efeu wieder zurecht zu ziehen. Sein Knöchel verfängt sich und Hulot hängt kopfüber von der Wand. Um Hilfe rufen? In dieser Position unmöglich. Und wie überlebt man nun in der modernen Welt? Gerechterweise ist Hulot kein Pessimist. Er sieht so aus wie immer: Faltiger Regenmantel, gelbe Socken darunter, die Hose zu kurz. Hulot ist diesmal Designer. Sogar Direktor bei einem Auto-Konzern und er hat das unglaublichste Camping Mobil aller Zeiten erfunden. Eingebaut im Lenkrad: Der Rasierer. Nun muss er das Vehikel nur noch zur Auto-Ausstellung nach Amsterdam transportieren. Die Fahr beginnt als PR Kolonne in Paris. Es soll sogar ein Wald zum Campen nachgebaut werden (mit falschen Birken - sieht bestimmt so aus wie unsere Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo). Natürlich ereignet sich so einiges auf dem Weg. Das Schöne daran: Die Vorfälle sind so komplex, dass sie an dieser Stelle nicht einfach beschrieben werden können. Hulot jedenfalls verliert trotz allem nie sein philosophisches Gleichgewicht. Er sieht den Menschen so: Er weiss, dass er lächerlich ist, betrachtet man ihn vernünftig. Das ist das Herz seines Humors: Pragmatismus. Hulot weiss, dass Autobesitzer ihren Autos immer ähnlicher sehen (wie Hunde-Besitzer). Und umgekehrt. Sogar Scheibenwischer nehmen die Persönlichkeit ihres "Herrchens" ein. Apropos Scheibenwischer; es regnet und Hulot darf endlich seinen tollen Regenmantel anziehen. Gut, oder? - Actually, everyone is incapable of finding their way in the modern world. Especially Monsieur Hulot (Tati). He is even worse off than we are! Above all, his good intentions constantly stand in his way. Every step only plunges him further into misery. One mishap follows the next (and originally started as a simple favor). Once Hulot tries to wake the mechanic's wife. During the attempt he tears the ivy off the wall. He climbs up, pulling the ivy back into place. His ankle gets caught and Hulot hangs upside down from the wall. Call for help? Impossible in this position. And how do you survive in the modern world? Justly, Hulot is not a pessimist. He looks like always: wrinkled raincoat, yellow socks underneath, pants too short. This time Hulot is a designer. Even director of a car company and he invented the most incredible camping mobile ever. Built into the steering wheel: the shaver. Now he only has to transport the vehicle to the car exhibition in Amsterdam. The journey begins as a PR column in Paris. Even a forest for camping is to be reconstructed (with fake birch trees - certainly looks like our film art bar Fitzcarraldo). Of course a lot happens along the way. The nice thing about it is that the incidents are so complex that they cannot simply be described here. In any case, Hulot never loses his philosophical balance. He sees man like this: He knows that he is ridiculous if you look at him sensibly. This is the heart of his humour: pragmatism. Hulot knows that car owners look more and more like their cars (like dog owners). And vice versa. Even windshield wipers take on the personality of their "master". Apropos windscreen wipers; it's raining and Hulot is finally allowed to put on his great raincoat. Good, isn't it?
