Wheel Of Fortune And Fantasy ist in drei Segmente unterteilt. - Ryûsuke Hamaguchi's films are about love and betrayal - and they love the unexpected twist in storytelling. Wheel Of Fortune And Fantasy is divided into three segments. These three parts are connected only by their fondness for role-playing games. Who still remembers Max Frisch's theory that everyone basically always takes on different roles in their lives? So for two hours we immerse ourselves in the lives of three women who do just that. To make sure that they are really three individual segments, each one ends with credits. What all three parts have in common is that they simply defy any easy characterisation. And look out for it; each episode has a clever title that will make you think even later. It all starts with a seemingly endless taxi ride between two best friends. They are having such a good time that they probably don't want the ride to ever end! The conversation revolves around a man and very slowly details become apparent that cause an uncomfortable feeling. Did both girlfriends love the same man? In short; did the partner of one also seduce the other? So we finally hear about the break-up of one of them through the account of the other - not entirely truthfully. And will it all come to light now? The second part is about an older woman who has an affair with a student and about an erotic trap... The third episode is about a reunion of former classmates. After they talk about the past, some - perhaps invented - events of today also become the topic of conversation. But isn't fiction much more beautiful than truth? Wheel Of Fortune And Fantasy is a love song to art, a paean to truth and lies that we tell ourselves in order to survive. Because what is a lie? Nothing other than hope!
