- Corneliu Porumboiu on the trail of Film Noir, which he lovingly deconstructs. The plot goes like this: A corrupt policeman is supposed to help the local mafia to get an entrepreneur out of prison. The policeman's name is Cristi (Vlad Ivanov) and he has a poker face like his film role models. Even though his world is shaking. In truth, the corrupt policeman from Bucharest is at the end. His colleagues distrust him. Then they put the wife of the entrepreneur on Cristi. Of course, her name is Gilda, a femme fatale... Corneliu Porumboiu plays with Film Noir, but makes it clear that he does not take everything that is complicated seriously. And in Film Noir, confusing actions are allowed to become more and more confusing. It's a kind of sport and the best thing to do is to use a pen and paper. The events can also be reconstructed, but that's not the intention of The Whistlers. We are looking at a society that has gone off the rails. Everyone betrays everyone else to save their own skin. There's also a little game going on to discover as many allusions to the classic role models as possible in this story of greed and betrayal. P.S. The film also provides information about the relationship between Eastern and Western Europe.
