Greg Araki ist kein Unbekannter, Teenagern Angst einzuflössen und zu provozieren. Er scheint besessen davon, die sexuelle Entfaltung sowie die Rebellion der Teens zum Thema seiner Filme zu machen. Was White Bird in a Blizzard zu einer Kuriosität in seinem Werk macht, ist die Tatsache, dass es der erste langweilige Film Arakis geworden ist. Kat Connors (Shailene Woodley) ist ein ganz gewöhnlicher Teenager während der 80er. Sie hört Cocteau Twins und abends ruft sie bei ihrem Freund Phil (Shiloh Fernandez) an, der gleich um die Ecke wohnt. Beide können sich über die Qualitäten von Behind The Wheel von Depeche Mode austauschen und deshalb sind sie ein Paar. Doch Phil weckt nicht nur die Lust von Kat, sondern auch von ihrer Mutter Eve (Eva Green). Einmal begrüsst Eve den Jungen im transparenten Nachthemd, dann erscheint sie vor ihm am Pool. Phil gerät zur Ablenkung von Eve, die als Hausfrau im kalifornischen Vorort vor sich hin vegetiert. Doch dann ist Eve plötzlich verschwunden! Detective Scieziesciez (Thomas Jane) befasst sich mit dem Fall, aber auch mit Kats phantastischem Busen. Vater Brock (Christopher Meloni) entwickelt sich derweilen langsam zum personifierten Albtraum... Immerhin bietet Arakis Film eine Art "Extended Dance Scene" zu Behind The Wheel und überhaupt ein feines Händchen für die Musikauswahl. Shailene Woodley, wie so oft, verwandelt den Film in etwas "Echtes", so dass wir uns für ihren Charakter interessieren, obwohl die Geschichte um sie herum gar nicht aufregend ist. Eva Greens Eve versucht "Bigger Than Life" zu wirken und man spürt, wie sie als Mutter verzweifelt versucht, im Mittelpunkt zu stehen. Green kann wie keine Zweite die dunkle Seite der Frau verkörpern - sie ist tatsächlich "Bigger Than Life"! Leider darf sie aber nicht in allen Szenen spielen. - Greg Araki is no stranger to scare and provoke teenagers. Once Eve greets the boy in a transparent nightgown, then she appears in front of him at the pool. Phil gets distracted by Eve, a housewife in the California suburbs. But then Eve suddenly disappeared! Detective Scieziesciez (Thomas Jane) deals with the case, but also with Kat's fantastic breasts. Father Brock (Christopher Meloni) slowly develops into a personalized nightmare... After all, Arakis film offers a kind of "Extended Dance Scene" to Behind The Wheel and a fine touch for the music selection. Shailene Woodley, as so often, transforms the movie into something "real", so that we are interested in her character, although the story around her is not exciting at all. Eva Green's Eve tries to work "Bigger Than Life" and you can feel her desperately trying to be the center of attention as a mother. Green can embody the dark side of woman like no other - she really is "Bigger Than Life"! Unfortunately she is not allowed to play in all scenes.
