Cuaron führt vor, wie sich echte Menschen verhalten und wie sie Sex haben! Es ist ganz gleich, ob Luisa mit einem oder beiden Jungs schläft, viel wichtiger ist doch, was sie den Beiden beibringt. Hier ist die Frau kein Hauptgewinn, den der Mann erringt. Sex wird als wertvoller Schatz verstanden, den Mann und Frau teilen (nicht bloss Orgasmus). Ganz nebenbei lernen wir auch das Land, Mexiko, kennen. Das Trio passiert Polizeistationen, Drogen-Hochburgen, aber auch ein Meer voller Blumen. Alfonso Cuaron hatte längst dicke Produktionen in den USA gestemmt, als er zurückkehrte, um Y Tu Mama Tambien in Mexiko zu realisieren. Warum? Weil er etwas zu erzählen hat über sein Land! Der Schlüssel zum Film: Maribel Verdu! Ihre Rolle ist die der sexy gealterten Frau, einen Charakter, den wir aus zahlreichen Filmen kennen. Doch wieviel mehr steckt in ihrer Rolle!
