Worum gehts hier? Um das LEBEN! “I want to teach you how to hold the camera", erklärt Steve Gleason seiner Frau in einer frühen Szene. “A good filmer asks good questions to get really good material", erklärt Steve Michel. Wow! - What's this about? About LIFE! "I want to teach you how to hold the camera," Steve Gleason explains to his wife in an early scene. We experience his struggle with the disease ALS and his prospect of living for only five years. He hands the camera to Michel, his wife, and then looks us directly in the eyes. "A good filmer asks good questions to get really good material," explains Steve Michel. Wow! Gleason is for me the valid proof of this thesis! Director J. Clay Tweel follows the maxim of concentration. He shows Gleason, the former football pro, fighting his illness. As immediate and stirring as a documentary can be! Moments of fear and doubt, but also abhorrence of the failure of one's own body. But then again the realization that the disease is not an obstacle to marrying anyway and even having a child. Gleason's son was born from the findings. Gleason lives on with perseverance and humor - one of the highlights of the scene, in which he gets an enema! The relationship with his father is also wonderful: "A pretty dysfunctional household" is how he describes the situation of his son, whom he assists. The father-son relationship is the mark, the heart, of this very emotional film. A real tearjerker, but what a beautiful one!
